Re: Is it worth buying a diesel?
When you say "going newer" I think you're showing your age :D Our 2012 125i (F20) would comfortably do over 40mpg on a cruise. The chap that we bought it from (off here) reckoned he'd seen north of 50mpg in eco mode - never quite managed that myself though as eco mode was horrible  T...

Re: Is it worth buying a diesel?
Buying older/cheaper there's probably enough of a benefit to be worth it, assuming you won't be going near London, Birmingham, Bath, Bristol or the other clean air zones coming in. Going newer, the modern turbo petrols do well enough to close the gap. At my local prices, a 43mpg petrol would be chea...
Re: EV Thread
2 charges? How long was the journey? 300 miles or so, pretty much all motorway. I'd usually rather stop when I want a break and quickly get back up to 80% or so rather than longer runs then extended stops to fill up more. Yes "but a diesel..". I'm not a road warrior any more so will take ...
Re: EV Thread
where charging at the destination is not an option (Wasdale Head anyone ??) The NT campsite there has chargers  or you just fuel up on the way in like you do in an ICE car. I think a lot of the "not enough chargers / broken chargers" sentiment is people not looking past the motorway ...

Re: FAO i3 owners
There are crossclimates but only for the square setup. BMW seem to expect that you'll buy a winter set of wheels (normally the fugly 427s, which are square) if you'll be doing winter tyres. Wisley can supply the various Michelin tyres and often have spare sets of wheels you can buy too. https://www....

Re: How's work going?
Feeling like I'm in a bit of a dead end but the pay's alright and the job suits my life just now with wfh etc. This. Coming up on 10 years in the same place, company is doing ok, but I'm not that busy and just a bit bored with it all. Could almost certainly make more elsewhere but they'd want a lot...
Re: EV Thread
BMW iX is 2.6t I think. Even an ICE XC90 is 2.3t. New Range Rover can exceed 2.8t depending on spec. Anyway, refreshingly on the other end of the scale - I saw Elliot, the guy that does the China-based stuff for Fully Charged has ordered a Xiaopaiche SC-01, I'd not heard of them and it looks ace. Co...

Welcome news, I'll be seeking those out. Bounty are far and away the worst of them.
Re: EV Thread
I keep a service cabinet key in the car just in case, lots of public 7kw chargers have an emergency release inside. The joys of a longer range car though is that you can limit public charging to places with plenty of rapid chargers, and it massively reduces the risk of something broken, blocked or n...

I was curious and pleasantly surprised, £884 for a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 fitted via blackcircles. I guess 20s are more common these days.

That's nice, not seen that interior trim before.
Really didn't like the E53 when they launched, now that every other car on the road is an SUV (and BMW design has truly gone off the rails) I've warmed to them a lot.

Re: The ford fiesta
If Peugeot can make an e-208 then Ford can make an e-Fiesta. Lazy sods. Can, but profitably? 208 is on a massively expensive modular platform (even then only 60% funded by Stellantis, rest from China) that was designed for EV from the outset. It's shared by loads of brands and models, so they get t...

Re: The ford fiesta
Ford's attempt at replacing the Fiesta with an all new electric small car should be interesting though (assume that's what's coming to replace it anyway) Nope, Puma will be the smallest EV then two larger SUV/crossovers, then the Mach-E and commercials. https://www.tch.co.uk/news/march-2022/9-all-e...

I get email forwarding included with my domain, she may have the same thing in the options. It goes to my gmail, then I set outgoing mail to use the (secure, authenticated) SMTP server at the domain host, using my own domain. So I can use the native gmail app on my phone, webmail etc. This looks lik...

It's a shame, been watching since it was xcar and the production value is great but it must be costly. Loads of their videos this year haven't hit 100k views ( linky ), and their parent CNET itself got acquired a couple of years ago. Unsustainable without ads/sponsorship or direct income from viewer...

Re: Energy companies direct debits
Octopus didn't, I manually raised mine a bit (I'm a few hundred in credit anyway) and then they've reduced it by £67 again to almost where it was
It's not your supplier choosing to spread the £400 over 6 months btw, that's how the government required it to be done.

Re: Collective hive mind assemble! Car question
Civic with the 1.6 diesel (2014-ish) is about as real-world efficient as it gets for motorway pounding. Hatch has a big boot, estate is massive (although a little over £5k). Free or £20 tax depending on model/year. Fairly cheap to buy as they're euro 5 so not ULEZ compliant.

Reolink have one coming, key thing for me is option of wired ethernet (and powered over it too) as well as a wifi model. https://store.reolink.com/video-doorbells/ Been very happy with their cameras that have the AI person/vehicle detection - that plus a blocked zone in the frame means I get a phone...
