Re: 2022 review / 2023 plans

Cheers. Does feel a bit odd. Not had more than two weeks off in a row since 2009, and apart from when I moved to the UK and was looking for work (which was when I became active on here), I've not been without a job(s) since I was 11. Best of luck. I took a few months away from work when I got marri...

Honda N Box Custom at the supermarket.

(I bet they don't moan about the size of parking spaces)

Re: Ember mug

James Hoffman did a good review of these. Ridiculous things but I can see the appeal, particularly if you get distracted by stuff and end up with that half cup of too-cold coffee or tea.

Re: 2023 Events - what's worthwhile?

Such a shame my mate moved from Bicester, his old house is just down the road from the gates. I've got tickets for Masters Historic Festival at Brands, need to buy tickets for the FIA World Rallycross at Lydden Hill in July. We'll probably do the Monster Truck Nationals at Santa Pod again this year,...

Re: Mountain Biking general thread

Night riding is at least 90% of my riding. Also means you're incredibly unlikely to get caught riding somewhere you shouldn't as it's too late for the dog walkers. It's even better in the lighter months when you can start with lights off, see the sunset and sit outside for a beer after without freez...

Re: EV Thread

Anyone else other than Tesla have their own?? Ionity is a joint venture between BMW, Ford, Hyundai/Kia, Mercedes and VW group. I think they all now have some sort of owners' discount or monthly schemes to get cheaper charging via it. Makes little sense for MB to do their own in Europe - even in the...

Re: EV Thread

Isn't it much more tax efficient to put a brand new EV through the business? I imagine the vast majority of Taycan owners do that.

Re: EV Thread

The one thing I struggle with is this idea of having to have an app and account for each of the charger operators. Why TF can't I just rock up and use a debit/credit card just like I would at a PFS? It all seems unnnecessarily complex at the mo and until it's simplified down to the minimal level of...

Update January 2023 We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year; we might have had one or two too many sherberts during that period... Natch. But where are we now and what the heck is going on? Well, there's lights at the end of the tunnel, thankfully. We've learnt - and continue to learn -...

Assume Patreons still pay a sub even if no content? (@Rich B - are you still a Patreon? i cancelled it a long time ago. It's a shame they couldn't make the whole YouTube thing work - if they'd gone about it seriously I think they could have made an awful lot of money doing what they enjoy doing. im...

Re: Phone upgrade - phone storage vs cloud

I only went up to 256 because it lets me dump my music library on there (rather than pay for Spotify etc) and have headroom for other stuff. For things like photos it's easier to just let icloud offload it. If you're shooting 4k video then it comes down to settings and how much you're going to have ...

Re: To-Do List Program?

Microsoft Planner works for us, "bucket" per customer, can have assignees, tags, start/end dates, recurrence, etc. Can attach things, comment, have checklists within tasks, etc. If you use Microsoft To-Do then you can have assigned tasks show up there, and quick reminders (eg do expenses) ...

Re: 0% alcohol beers

Most of the Brewdog ones are OK. If you like Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropica (it's quite fruity) then they do an AF that is decent.

One of my favourite beers, Gipsy Hill Hepcat, has just got an AF version that I need to pick up.

Brother colour laser here too. Got fed up buying a shit inkjet every few years. Toners last thousands of pages, a full set for about 6000 pages worth is about £60 for generics. Monos are buttons to run. It just sits on the network, goes to deep sleep after half an hour, never fails to wake up when y...

I'll have a go at most house things - thanks to youtube you can usually find an example of someone doing exactly that, or at least close enough to figure it out. Tumble dryer and dishwasher have both been in bits in the last year, and will be redoing the bathroom in Jan. Used to do a lot of car jobs...

Re: Do I want a wood burning heater?

I'll be contrary, previous owners put one in the lounge and I'll be getting rid when I redecorate in there. Used it a bit when we first moved in but it's been unused for years now. Too much heat output even in a badly insulated 30s house. Faff to clean and fuel it. Horrible effect on air quality. Th...

Re: Mountain Biking general thread

For the racers it can mean not getting a flat in the first place, and if you do then they keep the bead seated and give a bit of run-flat ability to get down a stage without destroying a rim. I thought the idea too was that you could go for a less robust tyre which can save more weight than the inse...

Ta, gone for it. Made a new wiggle account so hopefully 7% cashback on top too. :D The geo numbers are pretty standard for modern longer travel bikes, we've had the front slackening and rear steepening for years. I've ridden a couple of mates new bikes this year with similar and liked them (really c...

Bumping - itching for another FS, e-bike curious and the base Vitus E-Sommet is on offer at £3k now. https://vitusbikes.com/collections/e-sommet/products/vitus-e-sommet-297-vr-mountain-bike-2022 I'm happy with the spec of the non-e bits, but would a Shimano E7000 motor (60Nm) and a 504Wh battery be ...
