Re: Decent car YouTubes

Decent Peugeot. Really like the looks of the 508 anyway, but this one is pretty rapid as well as looking sharper. I'd quite like one of those once the inevitable 70% depreciation has happened. I'd missed that they do a "normal" 508 PHEV with 225bhp much like the VW group ones. Still a rea...

Re: The House Projects Thread

Local Selco appears to have it all in stock, but as I'm not trade, I can't buy from them. Become a fake landlord? Tenancy agreement template with a made up address is good enough. Apparently ;) I tend to use Champion Timber or Forestrall for wood, good selection online and cheap or free delivery at...

Re: Strada magazine

First issue arrived, possibly the heaviest magazine I've ever held, must be equivalent of 3 or 4 issues of Car. Looks good from a first skim through.

Strada magazine

Another go at the affordable-ish, modern-ish (80s - 00s) genre. https://stradamagazine.co.uk/

Sticking to 4 issues a year is hopefully sustainable.

Hario V60 here. Pact will sell you some coffee and a starter kit for £15. Spend the rest on a grinder.

Re: Why I won’t be buying an EV anytime soon...

Out of interest EV owners, what would happen if you were out? Is there anything physically stopping me pulling up in an EV car and using your charger? I flip the breaker for it if we’re away for a bit, but you’d have to be pretty brazen to do it given there’s security camera and several rapid charg...

Re: Anyone big in Crypto?

The small amount of BTC I bought in 2017 would probably buy me a Tesla now, had I not sold for a modest profit the following year  Used to be worthwhile (by which I mean making a bit more than electricity cost) mining things at home on GPU, although I probably made more selling the GPU at the p...

Re: Anti EV-only Petition

:P He seemed to think that there were more changes imminent for London but maybe he's wrong. PHEVs lose their congestion charge exemption later this year. BEVs will lose it too a few years later - but that's only the most central zone and for the most part, avoidable. There's been a proposal to cha...

Taycan then! You can guarantee that anything that burns fuel will get more and more restricted in London in the coming decades.

Re: Anti EV-only Petition

I think all 997 are OK too. Some people have managed to get exemptions if they can show their car or bike would meet Euro 4 but predated it (certificate of compliance or similar from manufacturer). Easiest just to stick the registration in the TfL ULEZ checker though. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/drivin...

Re: Anti EV-only Petition

Let's see I guess. I fully expect that if/when the country is not ready to cope with the changeover the 2035 date will get pushed out. We see it commonly in the legal world where deadlines are set with an aim of influencing behaviour but then stretch out into the future when its clear we won't get ...

Re: Anti EV-only Petition

Even if there are lots of affordable EVs by then, is a 15 year old EV going to have decent range and what costs will be involved with swapping battery packs, etc. They clearly don't represent the same proposition as a 15 year old petrol equivalent which could be bought and run for peanuts with equi...

Re: Anti EV-only Petition

Drivel. Putting aside that substantial chunk of people who can't afford any car today (and the tax, insurance, fuel, etc that goes with it) - the remainder will find affordable EVs by 2030. And all the petrol and diesel stuff still on the road can continue to be, although likely made more expensive ...

Re: Toyota GR Yaris

I walked past the Toyota dealer the other day and hadn't realised how pumped up a normal Yaris is now - given it's only available as a 5-door 1.5 hybrid. Almost comically aggressive for something too slow to even considered a warm hatch. Theirs was out on display at the front, all faux-carbon front ...
