Re: For the FAO of stereoists

Did you ship the speakers? Update on this is that as yet, none of it has left the UK, all still at mates house wrapped up ready to go. Longer story is it was supposed to be leaving via air freight using a friend's assistance but that's on hold temporarily. May end up needing to use different shippi...

Re: For the FAO of stereoists

Lots of great advice in this so far thank you. Unfortunately I can't give you any tech specs of any of it as it's either in the UK or may have possibly just left. So I guess I'll have to get it all here first and set it up and then go from there and maybe revisit advice here. I'm also not sure any o...

For the FAO of stereoists

I'm finally relenting and deciding to approach a decent stereo. This is partly driven by the fact my Dad left me a load of Denon separates and partly by the fact I just want to listen to music properly. Dad's Denon stuff on its way from the UK consists of a nice CD player, two identical amps and wha...

Re: Lego

I really do feel like either I've become a bigger sucker or they've absolutely zoned right in on the user demographics for niche interests and people who simply cannot resist a new Lego kit. I've bought more Lego in the last 12 months than probably most of the rest of my life combined, and they're a...

My Concorde is definitely not a child's play thing.

Re: 2023 review / 2024 plans

I've wanted to participate in this thread for like the last two maybe three years, but each time it's come around, frankly my own mental health hasn't been in a fit place to type something out without triggering the fuck out of myself. This year all I can muster is a big nope. Fuck 23, and may it ge...

jamcg wrote: Sat Dec 30, 2023 10:31 pm What do you want it for? Expanding foam packaging could be better depending on the size?
Wrapping stuff I'm sending back to the UK via air freight. I've had it used a number of times and referred to as 'export wrap' and it's pretty good stuff. Tough to tear chunks out of and waterproof.

Industrial bubble wrap

Does anyone here have access to heavy duty bubble wrap?

I'm thinking stuff like this, or similar? Clicky

Re: THAT phone call

Thank you everyone for the kind words, I appreciate it. Been a shitty few weeks, and my Dad ended up passing on my birthday which will make future celebrations interesting, but what you gonna do? All steps forward count right? Just to say though, for a bunch of blokes I met via the internet in what,...

Re: THAT phone call

Sorry to hear all that. Happy to be a medical sounding board if it would help. That's very kind of you, and I may well take you up on that yet. Brief update for those I haven't spoken to already. Dad has three tumours in his bowel, one in his lungs and one in his liver. He's eating nothing solid an...

Sim card portable modem thingy

Was talking with Beany earlier this evening about how to provide myself reliable internet access in the UK for a phone and laptop and he mentioned something like this: clicky He also mentioned some of you guys may have more experience or more to say about this than he did. Ideally need to be able to...

Re: THAT phone call

Out of interest, do you not have a UK one anymore then? I do, but last time I traveled on it, complete with its 12,000 visas and a US Govt one from a visit I did, where officially I was working on behalf of NZ Govt. it caused so much damn hassle getting into and out of UK/NZ. Stopped and interviewe...

Re: Large storage recommendations

This sounds complicated, can't you just buy a 20tb ssd and job ...jobbed? Wash your fucking mouth out. Decent reliable storage = at least three copies, in at least two places, one of which is off-site. At the very least with your suggestion you'd need three 20TB drives and a really disciplined rout...
