Re: The House Projects Thread

So here we are again, ready to submit a planning application. We've changed the design to a single floor (as this will be our last house) and ditched the wood cladding so its now white render with Spanish slate - meaning it will match the existing croft house which I learned at the weekend has been...

Re: Smart Thermostats

The main thing that annoys me with Evohome is how dated it is. In the 8+ years we've had it, there's been no UX updates. The controller and app are exactly the same in use, and it is rather clunky. I've seen plenty of people say that. The fact that it hasn't changed and is solid and reliable is rea...

Re: Extras

Does adding £117k of options really keep the value £117k higher? I struggle to believe that you'd struggle to sell a basic one with a price tag £100k less than one with a spangly interior and a dodgy blue racing stripe. Pre-Covid when people used to say how good Porsche residuals were they convenie...

I soaked my shoes last night pushing a Polo through a foot of water - takeaway delivery driver had taken a route that he shouldn’t, hit the water at a fair rate and killed the car. Gave him a lift back to his restaurant.
The general public are clueless when it comes to floods.

And Katz's deli is ridiculously expensive and a tourist trap at $30 for a sandwich but it's still a cool place to visit IMO. I don't care - I'm a huge Pastrami fan so this is an absolute must. We've also been recommended a Thai place from a mate of my son's (who's from Thailand) called TAO - it's t...

As Beany said, try a different hdmi port. Also switch off ‘Cec’ if you can. Failing that make sure any picture ‘improvements’ are switched off as the auto sensing can sometimes mess up console connections. TV manufacturers are great at fixing one item on firmware updates but breaking two others - LG...

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..

For what it's worth I do feel for people on lower incomes that feel that going private is their only option. It's a pretty damning indictment of how much we (as a country) have failed the state school system. Maybe if I was in charge I'd have a concerted program of school improvements before bringi...

Unless you have a unicorn that everyone wants it can be painful. Out of curiosity I've just stuck a handwritten note in the side window of the Defender today and within 15 minutes of parking up in Grosvenor Square for an appointment someone has texted me asking for a chat about it after 6pm - let's ...

If the extra 20% costs you £25k extra a year, then you're not going to get a huge amount of sympathy as you can happily afford the other £100k. Not saying you’re Left Rich but this is the fallacy of the left. Just because you can afford £100k for schooling, doesn’t mean you can easily afford anothe...

Shoddy garage work, failing to fix a simple handbrake issue on the compact (which I will now do myself this weekend) means that the Defender has been in daily duties this week. It always surprises me how many people look at it in London, and make positive comments (makes and female) - two yesterday ...

Timely ! I pulled the battery today and it's a "Powerline" in there, literally the cheapest thing you can buy  IMG_2156.jpeg CLICK I'm glad I pulled it & checked rather than blindly ordering a new one though as it turns out the internet was wrong. First time for everything eh ? ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

Ferraris aren’t magic. If the battery is good and the alternator is working properly you shouldn’t need to have it constantly sat on a charger if it’s used a couple of times a week. Obviously might be a good idea over the dark miserable months. I think that's the point though - a couple of times a ...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.

I'm tempted by an amp with one of the DIRAC adjustment systems built in. Only downside though is I've always found that these systems generally negatively affect the sound overall. Same with the SAM bass extension adjustment thing on the Devialet. A good equalisation system will have a net positive...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.

While we're talking about audio stuff, I would gladly accept a recommendation for a new amp to power my sub. It's an old generation 12" Cerwin Vega stroker - 4 ohms, and rated to 1200W RMS (I think), although in reality it's more like 1500/2k. As mentioned above the 500W Reckhorn barely tickle...

They are much prettier than I was expecting from B&W. Nice looking. I liked the early 90s B&W big box 2-ways I had (I forget the model number and can’t be arsed to Google it). I’ve always said that the speakers have the most effect on the sound so choose them first and everything else to ma...

If it helps its relatively cheap to have a handful of hard back books made these days - so even if you dont sell that many you can say you wrote and self published a book. Let me know if you need a cost ;) Are you involved in printing? What I’d not realised until my wife had to buy one of her own(!...
