Re: The idle dreaming “what next” thread.

I'd also need to measure the height of a Defender. I used to have a 110 hardtop and it was near as dammit 2m. A touch taller than me. You can see in the pic it's a lot bigger than the Frontera. It *just* squeezed under the door into my current garage, where I'm able walk through easily. My T4 is co...

Re: What's wrong with yours?

It must be coincidence but since coming back from having a new washer pump, the wipers on the BMW squeak as they come to rest in intermittent mode. No squeaking from them when blasting the screenwash or blipping the stalk for a single wipe. Weird.

Re: The idle dreaming “what next” thread.

You'd be better to try and find a 130 if you want a crewcab and a decent size pick up bed. I was going to say something along those lines. The bed of a regular crewcab isn't really very big, it's not long or wide enough for bikes unless you start faffing about taking the wheels off (I mean the bike...

A standard one perhaps. If you modify it to 750bhp it'll cost less, right ?

Re: The idle dreaming “what next” thread.

Big estate with comfort mode suspension and 4 litre burbling away massively unstressed delivering 20+mpg. Then when the opportunity arises - BOOM - monster performance! 750bhp and 20mpg ? Really ? And I didn't just mean the fuel costs, every time I read about Audi RS models there's stories of hugel...

Re: The idle dreaming “what next” thread.

...2015 RS6 with akropovic exhaust and 750bhp... To use as a daily ? I'd expect the running costs to be pretty horrendous and it's not like you can ever use that much power on the road. My realistic "what next" is a decent lockup/workshop where I can work on cars indoors and in comfort. M...

Re: Your fleet running reports

How does the Vantage compare to your 996, performance wise? The 996 has ~80 fewer BHP, but weighs something like 200kg less, right? Actually on the basis of SJ's RR results for the 996 and Vantage - more like 110hp between the two. Even worse - 121.2 difference ! 382.7 for the Aston, 261.5 for the ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

The BMW went back to BMW on Saturday for the windscreen washer leak. Apart from the hassle of getting it there (and collecting again) it was a very pleasant experience. New pump fitted to cure the leak. And a quick health check reporting back the condition of tyres & brakes. And a wash & vac...

Re: Your fleet running reports

JonMad kindly organised a forum trip to Farnborough Costco at the weekend - so I met up with him, GG & Duncs. With a bit of time to kill before lunch we went to Surrey Rolling Road and did some quick power runs. The Aston performed perfectly, producing a touch over the factory spec of 380hp. I a...

Re: Surrey* Rolling Road - Sat 28th April - from about 10am

That's an unusual colour. Nice. Someone on Pistonheads was recently lamenting the lack of green Astons what with it being the classic British colour. Did Nutty come over to the new forum ? IIRC his was one of the less common colours; black or grey is the resale-friendly choice. Even silver like mine...

Re: Surrey* Rolling Road - Sat 28th April - from about 10am

I must say I was smitten with that Aston. Stunning. Shucks. Thanks. You'll have to take it for a spin next time. I'm obviously massively biased, but I do feel like they're a bit of a bargain at the moment compared to the other obvious candidates whose prices have rocketed in recent years. There's a...

The redline looks to be 7,250 from that picture. OK, you do have a point there. Smarty pants. But that's not my car, it's a pic off the internet that I posted from my phone and didn't notice it was slightly different to mine. Here's an actual picture from my car: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dhstn1xpx...

Re: Surrey* Rolling Road - Sat 28th April - from about 10am

It revs to 7.5k? Good stuff! So it seems ! The rev counter doesn’t actually have a red line marked on it. It’s plain all the way to 8k: https://images.hgmsites.net/lrg/2008-aston-martin-db9-2-door-volante-auto-instrument-cluster_100258807_l.jpg (not my pic) (but my speedo is the same and goes up to...

Re: Surrey* Rolling Road - Sat 28th April - from about 10am

Factory spec on mine says 380hp and I was expecting it to be well under. In the end it managed this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sv30auie1cbs3vf/AstonDyno1.jpg?raw=1 I am pretty chuffed 8-) Although it was only after I got home that I realised the second line is AFR, not torque. D'oh. I'll have to try...
