Re: Garage Door Servicing
That noise sounds quite similar to a problem I've seen on a garage door. The one in question was a motorised up-and-over, so a bit different. It has nylon wheels on the end of a scissor arm that run in a track. One of the nylon wheels had come loose and wasn't running straight, so the mechanism was ...

Re: Mice - One for Mito?
Indeed. Hopefully that'll do that trick. I'm still unsure about dumping some poison in the wall as I don't really want a dead rat (which I think it is) stinking the place out if it dies in there.. tricky one. The *new* poisons are desiccating, so they dry the bodies out and (theoretically) don't st...

Re: Mice - One for Mito?
I'm not proud to admit I have given up on humane methods of dealing with mice, so it's poison and sticky traps all the way. I used to be far more sympathetic to their cause, but I fucked up a few years ago. We were redoing our kitchen and I brought a roll of Rockwool into the house that had been in ...

Re: Pops and bangs
I've always been on a bit of a sticky wicket with the TVR. It has always not only popped and banged like a good'un, but also attracts attention at night thanks to clearly visible flames. First time we went for a drive (you, Mudge and I in Cerb 4.5, Z3M Coupe and VXR8 respectively) I remember giggli...

I've been tugged at three times for noise over the years (plus one which was for speed, when they raised the issu...
Re: CBD oil
Honestly my supplementation got out of hand! I was taking Iron, Zinc, Magnesium, Ashwagahnda and Vitamin C & D but at the end of the day, that's all completely pointless without testing. Who do you use for testing? I was using Medichecks, but I heard that their reputation had taken a bit of a k...
Re: CBD oil
Oh, and also to add - restless leg is sometimes an iron deficiency. Might be worth trying a folic acid supplement (improves iron uptake) as well as a iron one (if you think your diet might be short)
Re: CBD oil
I was using CBD when I was training for the bouldering competitions are couple of years ago and found it pretty effective as an anti-inflammatory/muscle recovery aid. Without it, strength training every other day was a *bit* too much. Pecs and deltiods constantly sore, lats and traps prone to knots/...

Does it count as a convertible if there's no roof at all?

Re: Garage Use
Three lockups - one just for car and part storage, one for small roadcar jobs, one for non-car storage Two proper workshops - mostly for racecar stuff, but I try and keep a space free in one for bigger roadcar jobs. One shipping container - was being used for "dirty" car storage (e.g. stri...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
Well. There has been some progress, thanks to Scott's line-out voltage suggestion. The story is a little more complicated than I laid out above, but in short - I never used the sub-out terminal from the Yamaha because it appeared to be dead and I assumed it was broken. Therefore the sub was driven f...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
If you don't mind fan noise, any of the big name commercial amps should work for you - Electro-Voice and Crown XTi tend to be my default brands when doing commercial installs. If you don't mid spending a bit more (or need something silent) the Audio Control RS1000 is great. Jim - as mentioned above...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
Ive used the Matrix amps that Chris used to have. He had a 2 channel Matrix UKP2100 SMPS for powering the 18" subs. We could run these at full chat hours and they barely sniffed. 1050W per channel. Ran 2 x18" drivers on two channels to much loudness. Zero distortion and take a lot of powe...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
@Nefarious No real idea - that's more like pub/nightclub weaponry you are after. Something like this? They have one UK distributor who doesn't list it but could presumably get one? edit : baws - I missed that the RMS power quoted is 500w  It's exactly stuff like that I've half-heartedly...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
While we're talking about audio stuff, I would gladly accept a recommendation for a new amp to power my sub. It's an old generation 12" Cerwin Vega stroker - 4 ohms, and rated to 1200W RMS (I think), although in reality it's more like 1500/2k. As mentioned above the 500W Reckhorn barely tickles...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
For those using digital sources, upgrading to a third party DAC is, IMO, the single best value overall improvement to the system - clearer, brighter and somehow meatier sound. I used to have a Beresford Caimen (?) which I paid about £100 for new about 15 years ago. But my brother "borrowed"...

From Zonda's thread a couple of weeks ago Fine dining-wise - Martin Wishart is the best in town, but do expect a wallet kicking The Gardeners Cottage is good too. Also see the Lookout (same people/menu as GC, but with views) Noto on Thistle street is good too if you like the small plates style Tom K...

Re: Undergoing recalibration.
Thank you for reminding me that my hifi needs attention. I'm still running a pair of B&W 602 S2s and a pair of 603 S2s, coupled with my massive Cerwyn Vega 12" stroker in a home-built in-wall enclosure. All run off a pair of Arcam Alphas, a Yamaha something receiver, and a Reckhorn power am...

Re: GE 2024
I'm mildly shocked that the media are playing the by-election results as "a game of two halves". By anyone's measure, the Tories got a right royal shoeing, and it was via only single-issue campaigning against what is effectively their own clean air policy that saved them total and utter hu...
