Local politics

We’ve got a building site in our village, the builders have destroyed a circular road by driving trucks on it, one half of the road they do have permission to use and the other they don’t. It’s a tight road network so the builders have set up a “one way” access system so they don’t get their trucks ...

Re: No F1 thread?

It’s just bullshit bitterness which ruins it a bit. Why can’t another team copy the philosophy of a faster team? I don’t see anyone complaining about teams copying the Ferrari car... Because running a 2019 Ferrari won’t beat everyone  Well it looks like some teams have copied Ferrari :!: :shoc...

Re: No F1 thread?

No, it wasn’t illegal until the technical clarification was issued. At that point, they were in breach of the clarified rule and they stopped using that system. Ferrari’s team boss Mattia Binotto consistently denied any wrongdoing and the team were not found to have broken the regulations. What wer...

F1 were talking about maybe having to run races with no spectators. There will probably be a similar amount of team staff in a small paddock!
Who cares what F1 does? They’re not always right.

So you’re 90yrs old, what’s in the garage next to your 1.0l FWD shopping car?

I might own a FWD Fiesta (or insert appropriate EV here) but definitely the Mustang. I don’t intend on living a boring retirement and having seen a number of family members go slowly it’s something I’m keen to avoid putting myself and my family through. Infact, if it comes to it, backwards on fire t...

Re: Coronavirus

It’s a bit confusing. We’re told it’s not mutating, but if it isn’t how are people getting reinfected? Or are these people with suppressed immune systems? Either or, usually we’d have seen re-infection by now in at least a compromised immune case which suggests if you’re healthy and get it you’ll b...

Re: 2020 LR Defender

? The reliability If that’s the thing they’ve really worked on, it’s not the first road tests which will demonstrate it. I don’t remember JLR products ever being accused of unreliability in their launch road tests. It’s over time that issues arise, like with Ingenium diesel DPFs. The infotainment a...

Re: Trackday insurance - single day cover

Think Tim has a bit of experience with this.

IME the ones which will actually pay out cost at least a grand a day for basic cover, but that was a while back.

Surely the £100k+ Range Rover deserved that extra effort?

It’s always been the reliability rather than the design where JLR fell down; is that what you’re referring to?

That’s pretty cool, you testing the prototypes? Designed a decent part of it, now on to customer car “we have to get this right” mode 8-) I can’t tell you enough how much extra effort has gone into this car and how proud I am. I’ve this evening just won an award for my part of the design. Depending...

Re: 2020 LR Defender

I saw one driving through Bromsgrove with the prototype vehicle sticker on the bonnet too, looked alright. I know you’re ex-JLR Not really, I was only there for 8 months as a contractor before I got so bored I had to leave. My proper job was construction. That place has a bungee cord attached to it!

Aston have gone from bring the prettiest cars to the ugliest ones. They look like cheap kit cars from a company employing a handful of people and the designer was some beardy guy who built a mildly successful race car 30 odd years ago.
