Re: Collectability of McLarens

Great read as always SSO and an interesting subject. I kind of agree with @Zonda_ - other than the P1 or Senna, I couldn't pick a specific model out of a lineup. Which isn't to say I don't admire what McLaren have done in a relatively short space of time; I know the great reviews they consistently ...

https://youtu.be/k0uUqUXaPJ4 EDIT: For the record, I enjoy his videos. He certainly has his opinions. Facts, not so much. He would probably make a good politician. I was interested in your opinion on it as you are an actual owner. It feels like he gets a great deal of joy out of bashing McLaren but...

Re: Collectability of McLarens

With Mclaren it feels like you have a choice of cars with the same basic drivetrain and chassis with just different price points to appeal to different incomes. They're actually quite a bit of differences between the 570 & 720 series cars in terms of chassis, suspension, aero, and drivetrain. M...

Re: Collectability of McLarens

I think the Ultimate series cars will be collectable but the main issue with the others is they all look the same. A guy in town has one and I have no idea what model it is. I'll grant you the current Ferrari range is a lot larger than in times past but they are all still pretty distinctive. Not su...

Re: Where’s the car price crash apocalypse ?

It will take a few months to play out. Right now the market is largely frozen and most people still have cash.

He must have done some good, somewhere, at some point to keep landing these roles?
None that I could ever find any evidence of. He had some sort of connection to Jean Todt which is how he kept landing well.

Re: SSO Blog: Aston Martin, Ferrari & McLaren's Challenges

The conversion of a car brand to a luxury goods brand is awefully reminiscent of the Bahar plan for Lotus... Let's hope execution is significantly better! Good news.....it could not possibly be worse. Yup, did you ever meet crazy Dany SSO? I did, when he was at Ferrari and the meeting was about my ...

Re: SSO Blog: Aston Martin, Ferrari & McLaren's Challenges

I kind of hope you’re right about Stroll’s plans for AM. I just don’t feel they really have much of a direction, otherwise. The conversion of a car brand to a luxury goods brand is awefully reminiscent of the Bahar plan for Lotus... Let's hope execution is significantly better! Good news.....it cou...

Re: SSO Blog: Aston Martin, Ferrari & McLaren's Challenges

Interesting read, worrying times at Gaydon, plenty of mates took refuge there from the disastrous Jean Marc Gale years at Lotus. The Aston Martin IPO's due dilligence must've stunk to high heaven though surely? Or is it that simply the expected level of risk in these things? It's hard to say on the...

Re: SSO Blog: Supercar Market Update

Is there a noticeable drop off in value at 5 years due to the servicing costs increasing? I guess only the really long term affect after that is cars which are looked after properly and those which aren't. I may have missed it, but what is the rolling restoration on the F40? Not really on the value...

Re: SSO Blog: Supercar Market Update

I'm amazed at those figures in a number of ways. Insurance is at least what I'd expect, but the servicing costs are way lower than I thought. Do the big bills average out the more frequent smaller ones, e.g. the partial engine rebuilds at various service intervals or do you research the costs and c...

Re: SSO Blog: Supercar Market Update

How much money do you really need to run these sort of cars? I know it's a very personal question and can vary based on a lot of factors so please feel free to tell me to FRO. However, if you're interested in putting some numbers around it, I would be keen to know. I have always thought one car is ...

Re: SSO Blog: Supercar Market Update

Finally read this, and think your predictions are likely to be true. I'm unlikely to shead a tear for the speculators who have created "can never be driven" ultra-low-mileage motoring ornaments, but as Foz states - this will likely affect the entire performance car spectrum. Since we've d...

Re: SSO Blog: Supercar Market Update

Interesting read as ever. I don't know the numbers backing McLaren but I'd be concerned about their very limited niche at the moment. AML have dire numbers at the moment but DBX and super SUVs "might" but the sort of slightly more paletable indulgence the buyers return to first. Fingers c...
