Re: Worst case of 40mph everywhere folk

I definitely meet the minimum standard but think I would need lessons to pass the test. Being a good driver and passing the test isn’t necessarily the same thing. I can remember being to,d that during manoeuvres you shouldn’t need to use the throttle, just the clutch. I then asked a driving instruct...

Re: Food served on wood

Why’s it so hard to make a flatter burger? Just use the same amount of meat in a bun/ roll which was baked for a small child. An XL Bacon doubleCceseburger from Burger King should be used as an appropriate template for burger size and shape. Some burgers are like having a huge meatball in a roll. Da...

Re: Book review thread

I go through a lot of audio books travell8 g to work and back and this one was fascinating. https://www.amazon.com/Handful-Hard-Men-Battle-Rhodesia/dp/1612003451/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 Lots of derringer do, what appears to be a very honest account from a guy I knew who lived in Rhodesia...

It’s the writing that makes the magazines better. YouTube stuff I find annoying as most (apart from it appears the old evo staff) just prove either dull or overly flamboyant and very much saying it for the telly.

Re: Hybrid batteries

Really? Stuck in traffic I don't think it matters if you've got a twin turbo v6 does it? C'mon James you're fast becoming a caricature of yourself. Unless you levita3 into traffic then you have to have reached there at some point. 95% of my driving is to get from A to B only, normally with kids or ...

It’s ok, in 6 months time we find out he has put lipstick on an inflatable T-Rex and gets arrested while standing on a chair trying to get a hand job from it with the curtains open.

Normality will return.

Re: Hybrid batteries

Seriously this is some dull shit. What’s the point of buying something with (faux) sporty credentials to use it like an electrical appliance? Because most driving is dull shit, and these sorts of cars are very good at that stuff. And if they hasten the death of diesels that can only be a good thing...

Re: Randomness

Errr. Did you just post 2 people dying? Think I'll pass on watching this one... Looking at it although it looks dramatic, I don't think they died. If you look carefully the 'explosion' didn't start from where they were but out one of the 'turrets' out the top of the tanker. A few seconds later you ...

Clutch and accelerator cabling I'm told are the things to take on road trips, not that I need to tell Chris that! You can see them both just above the fire extinguisher in the boot :D Alternator belt was a new one on me, but now also in there... The Lotus 7 Club used to take a Sprinter full of spar...

I shall from now on inform the customer that I am simply a Dave. For what it’s worth, you can’t work in most countries unless you have a job title of engineer but a lot of countries see schooling or university as the only sources of education. Also g as they pay me a fair wage I’m happy  Dave!

If you are doing an engineering job as defined by the dictionary, then you can call yourself an engineer in the general work environment imo.

Re: It's the weekend

Thoughts on not being able to call yourself an engineer until you have an actual, recognised qualification in engineering? The definition is.... a person who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or structures. You also have the shipyard definition which is 1st, 2nd and chief engineer. A...

I’ve never met an engineer under the age of 40 who I trust with measurements. I’m currently trying to move 2016tons worth of engine and alternator into position with a tolerance of 0.1mm and he has his measurements backwards so instead of the foundations being 13mm too high, they are intact 35mm too...

I’m finding motivation for any essential vehicle work very hard to find lately. Which is why I drove 160 miles for a brake job on my Landy by taking it to Mr Flew. I’ll happily do work on the wife’s TT but am having a low point in my spannering of late. I’d rather sit in the warm and tinker with toy...

Re: Ring Lap Times

Does anyone have a time or the Carrera GT on its original tyres and the modern ones? It was said at the time that it made a huge difference to how the car handled and gripped so I wonder if some of the bigger leaps are more down to tyres than a refining of suspension and brakes etc.

Re: Hybrid batteries

It’s not good for the engine, but, it would have been designed into it so probably makes no difference. It probably does more harm to the exhaust system than anything else and modern exhausts seem particularly good compared to 20 years ago.
