Re: New car!

Good move. Life's too short to drive serious cars, and the sun has come out to applaud your new direction. Ignore any flak posts - they are all a little envious. ;)

Re: Knowledge section?

From the response so far we probably don't have enough knowledge. FWIW I think it's a good idea though.

Re: Interesting lend

I've also owned a '60s Elan and a '70s Europa, and the gear-change quality advantage would swing it in favour of the Elan for me. Europa gearchange is completely fixable (I've done 3 now!) - it's just a pain in the arse because the long and convoluted linkage develops play everywhere. The biggest s...

Re: Pocket Money

Pocket money for completed little tasks or improved school grades is the way to go. An expectation of money for nothing every week sets them up for a future life on the sausage!

Re: It's the weekend

I think i’ll do this along with watching some motorsport for my last week of freedom. Been told I’ll be a vegetable till July. Yolo. Hope it goes well whatever treatment you're having Dave. So can we expect shit posting from you, like you used to until July? 😉 Let’s see how bored I get 😂 Good luck ...

I'm old enough to have the advantage of being able to bring into focus an image of Emma Peel in her Elan to make all well in the world again... :D

Re: Bug guts

Use soaked kitchen roll and apply like wallpaper to the bug(gered) up area half an hour before you wash the car. It's usually enough to soften the bugs sufficiently for an easy wipe off. Of course this all happens more easily if the car was polished and had a layer of quality wax on in the first pla...

Re: Best car you have ever driven?

I guess for the age I am now (64) my 981 Cayman GTS is almost perfect. Scroll back 21 years and I had hit the nail squarely on the head when I picked up my Lotus Elise. 21 Years before that I was happy in my GP Beach Buggy at Blackrock Sands and a girl in a bikini came and asked for ride in my car! ...

I think you need a modern take on the old Scimitar GTE.

Re: The idle dreaming “what next” thread.

With my sensible head on I can see us in an M240i at some point, but dragging me in the other direction are thoughts of a Cayman GT4 (been invited to send a letter of interest) or a supercharged Elise (still think fondly of the S1 I sold 18 years ago). I get my state pension in November so that sobe...

Re: Parking fine advice please.

On the subject of advice in general, mine is to avoid Greggs wherever possible. With the growing obesity and attendant diabetes crisis, anything to do with Greggs will be an offence eventually.

You are right. They all look equally awful these days - as do F1 cars. (Maybe It's my age...)

Re: New Tyres?

I just show the tyre fitter my phone with a screenshot of the tyre I want on the blackcircles website with the price there. At that point it’s up to him to take it or leave it. Much better for the fitter too as it cuts out the middle man. They profit more and I get my tyres changed by someone I tru...

Re: New Tyres?

Our local tyre depot told me to order from Black Circles on line and the tyres were delivered to the depot and fitted next day. The fitted price was less than I remember paying at the dealers/local suppliers 15 years ago!

Hi Paul, I'm pretty sure everyone knew about your Cayman anyway (black innit?). Didn't you have some sort of Fiat as well? TBH I knew much better who you are than some of the noobs who decided to change their name when we changed forum. One can only presume they enjoy making life difficult. ...

Re: Guitars 'n' shit

I've got a couple of acoustics. A Seagull and more recently a Martin. (I stopped playing the Seagull soon after I learnt that James Blunt used them!) I have no talent at all, but I feel the need to have them anyway. My brother in law has a seagull acoustic in his collection that sounds beautifully ...

Re: It's the weekend

-Went for a drive/coffee.
-Did a shop at Waitrose. (Yes - I know I'm a cliche).
-Washed car which is now painfully bright, then drove past a crowded local beer garden with noisy exhaust mode on so that even the vision impaired could enjoy it/hate me too.
