Can't believe no ones mentioned getting rid of road tax and dropping it on fuel.

Fuck yes, I'd rather have speed cameras than humps.

Re: Mesh wifi

Is cabling an option at all? Running some Cat5/6 through, especially now while I suspect you're renovating/decorating anyway pays off, especially as you can use it for so many things now (IoT, CCTV, video signals, etc)

Re: Mesh wifi

I mean, lets not get carried away though - WiFi 5 is more than enough for home use, WiFi 6, 6E, 7 and so on are just massive overkill unless you're planning to move multiple GB of data over the house. It'll be fine to view a 4K movie or browse a bit of FB ;) Obviously if you're buying new there's no...

Re: Mesh wifi

I’ll investigate that. I don’t want it to require an IT specialist to make it work though 😄 The range isn't really better with newer kit, just throughput...although you'll get better speeds along that same distance. It's more about the construction/antennas for range. Difficulty with WiFi is a lot ...

Indeed, that's a great car. Back in my day we had to have a Panda 750cc with a choke and 34bhp and be happy about it! ;)

Re: Home CCTV

There is an utterly baffling range of cameras out there. This was simply the top of my shortlist at the point where I lost the will to live and decided to just buy *something*. It's due to arrive later today. Review to follow eventually. How did you find this in the end? I need something to connect...

Re: Up GTi door seal leak.

As feared our door seal leak has been fixed using the expensive method, and we pick up an orange new/pre-registered Abarth 595 Turismo on Friday. We got £9300 trade-in which I suppose is good for a 5 and a half year old car that cost about £16k new. Sad times, but still a reasonable price....didn't...

Jimny has now moved in too. And I found there are sockets in the carport - hiding on the backs of the rear pillars. I’ll drive them in forwards and stick them on the CTEKs at some point.
I read that as Jimmy and got all kinds of confused.

I like them, but not more than the OEM ones....although I guess they're lighter? He didn't weight them though :? which you'd think would be the point.

Re: Slow texters

I just forget. I'm in loads of different groups as well as invdividual chats, so opening up WA after a few hours has a bunch of alerts. Problem is I sometimes read them, think "I reply to that later" then just...forget to. That's old age for you.

Re: Your fleet running reports

My partner Alison's Up GTi, (five and a half years old, owned from new and never bent or abused) has started to leak rain water in around the door seal onto the drivers seat. Bit disappointing for a VW. Anyone else had a similar problem? Forgot you had one! Mines also 5yrs old, but no leaks here. S...

Re: Your fleet running reports

Did a Walshy fun day at North Weald yesterday with some folks off SELOC. Can't have much more fun for £100! 12 cars, so you don't get a ton of time on the various circuits or much tuition (although Walshy did jump in with me once, and I have been before so that's ok), but still a load of fun. What ...

Speaking of white goods - I pulled the tumble dryer apart last night as something was a squeakin'. :? I can't believe you've just insinuated that jamcg 's wife new car is as exciting as your broken tumble dryer. That's pretty low, Mik. And anyway, what is this? Your Home Appliance Running Reports?

Re: Is car insurance racist?

I mean, it's shitty journalism TBH. I mentioned this in the other thread - no one is paying £2k/year on a Fiesta. I suspect they've looked at all the quotes, lowest being £400, highest being £5000 (in other words, those mad quotes where they just don't want the business) and said "oh yeah, the ...

Re: Car insurance

This was on the BBC this morning, trying to suggest that car insurers were institutionally racist....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68349396

However, I was more taken back at an "average" of a 30 year old teacher paying £2k a year on a Ford Fiesta!
