Re: Lights

Mrs Mik's E-Tron has the Matrix LED lights that do the "make black hole around other cars" shizzle. Best headlights on any car I have ever driven. They do occasionally get befuddled though and momentarily light up something (ie another car) that you didn't want lit up - and they are fecki...

Re: FECPOTY 2023 VOTING

In future years we should have a FeCOTY meet to establish a true winner! But I agree with what others say about the fun of reading about the journeys. One of the main reasons I come back to the forum are the buying threads and the posts in fleet running reports. Most of those top placed really contr...

Re: Lights

The general issues that driving standards totally stink these days and people have no discipline over their lights definitely stand, although I doubt I would turn them on in the above picture.

Re: Pie or no pie

Shepherd's/cottage pie - mash Fish pie - pastry lid (or mash?) Meat pie - fully encased, bring on the calories. Fish pie and Shepherd's pie have special dispensation for not actually being pies. A little like how Angel Delight is in fact not delightful. What we need is a legal mind to rule on the s...

Re: EV Thread

If that Cupra has the same infotainment system as the ID3 then it’s a complete disaster. VW admitted as such and said they’re bringing back buttons for essential functions but it will take until 2026 to do so  This I'm afraid. I tested both the ID3 and Cupra Bourn... the Cupra is probably the...

Re: Specificationize a PC

I'm genuinely quite impressed how a 9 year old CPU/mobo combo has lasted me including playing fairly up to date games until basically a couple of years ago (it managed Doom Eternal in the pandemic for instance). So I think I am less worried about the idea of swapping out components as time goes on a...

Re: 737 Max

Alaskan air has grounded their fleet of 737 max after a door blew out at 16000ft https://twitter.com/bbcbreaking/status/1743546384270139460?s=46&t=Kg3-G23T5OptIvzAdzKk1w Wonder if any other airlines will follow suite I couldn't believe this. It's like something out of a far side cartoon. You're...

Re: Specificationize a PC

Excellent thoughts, all. I have had a bit of a dig on the Intel vs AMD threads but am still undecided there. I do take your point on futureproofing though.
Have swapped to the NVME, increased ram and gone full tower with the case (just because it'll fit in me office better).

Re: Specificationize a PC

Good point - I want something that will run games without breaking a sweat (I miss that) but will also be comfortable doing "heavy" office work ie having lots of tabs open, multimedia and some stats crunching.

Specificationize a PC

My current system is mostly 9 years old (i5 4460, Asus Z97-P Intel Z97 mobo and 8Gb of DDR3). It's time for a refresh and I wondered on your opinions on the below. I currently have a Radeon RX 5600 which I was going to temporarily re-use to lighten the financial load with a view to changing next yea...

Re: Coronavirus

Lots of it around but very little touching intensive care like in the bad old days. The odd immunosupressed or anti-vax or very unlucky person. Most of what is coming to hospital is people with underlying lung conditions who have had them exacerbated by it. It's become like a seasonal virus like all...

Re: The Weather Thread.

Were you in one of your BMWs, Rich? They always used to have quite low air intakes so following someone wouldn't necessarily be a good idea. Exactly this happened to an old boss of mine, being responsible for the family converting from 530d to Range Rover... I am never sure of the argument of gun i...

My guess is 'purchase' but other possibilities are 'pleasantness', 'poltroon' and 'palaver'.

We could have a poll to vote on what the P stands for?

Re: 2023 Cheese Of The Year

Not a new discovery but I keep going back to Oxford Blue which is a tremendous semi hard blue that goes awfully well on a cracker but is equally at home lending a sandwich some heft.

Thanks for the above recommendations.

Re: 2023 Cheese Of The Year

Continuing the Brie theme, Baron Bigod has been my absolute favourite this year. A Brie-de-Meaux with oodles of punch, a strong nutty mushroomy smell and taste as well as unctuous texture.
