Re: The ICE

32% of homes have no off street parking so you've 1/3 of the housing stock that that's not going to work for (going back to the cables danging from windows example someone posted earlier). That will require a move to something like inductive charging pads otherwise you're going to disenfranchise a ...

Re: The ICE

That would be a stopgap solution - there is one on our street in fact. Still not going to be enough capacity to have everyone plugged in at night given lampposts are about 30m apart and limited charging speed as you note.

Re: The ICE

All this talk of charging four wheeled white goods has made me realise how many hours of my life I've saved not having to research a thousand different types of plug. Seriously though - there will be no mass transition to BEVs until the infrastructure/technology makes a next generation shift ...

Re: Bat soup/Wuhan

I've had duck brain and fish eyeballs in Hong Kong before and also tripe Chinese style is actually not bad (boiled so that it has no real flavour itself but is presented with copious amount of ginger and garlic oil in much the same way as snails are in France). Think I'd definitely draw the line at ...

Its pretty indistinguishable from an Up! dimension wise so far as width and length goes but has a much higher driving position.

Re: New Car...

Yeh - it doesn't look that small does it.

I suppose it is essentially two ForTwos stuck together more or less. 996 and 997s are small though by today's standards and pretty good as city cars funnily enough (manual box aside)!

Re: New Car...

So - first full week with the Smart... I picked it up from Norwich so had a good 2.5 hour drive home to get acquainted. It managed to sit at 85ish most of the way back on dual carriageways and m-ways which I was really quite impressed with. You have to give some consideration to its upright stance a...

Re: Panorama - Smart Motorways

Would be interesting to see the breakdown of those 38 deaths as I think that's where the manipulation of the figures is hiding but I can't readily find a breakdown. 4 people were killed in 10 months on 16 miles of the M1 in 2018 so I wonder if the figures are heavily skewed toward the end of that 5 ...

Re: Panorama - Smart Motorways

The poor young boy that was killed had 40 seconds between becoming stationary and the car being obliterated by a lorry. Even if they change the advice to "get the hell out as quick as you can", you really are still at the mercy of the gods.

Re: Panorama - Smart Motorways

The roll out needs to stop immediately and the process of reversal begun. Finishing ongoing projects might seem cheaper than contract cancellation but I bet it's not if you factor in the cost of remediation to either remove the infrastructure or modify it to attempt to make it safe. Highways England...

Yep - fried rice is a favourite of my 3yo too. A good tip is to add a bit of oyster sauce to it for extra umami flavour.

You'll have to tune out the gimpy presenter but this is a good recipe for something along those lines and dead easy to make if you have all the right condiments and a pestle and mortar:

Not likely to do this for breakfast but thai/korean style fried egg in a (proper, not not-stick) wok is good for achieving this very quickly.

Re: Steak Dinners

Trust me, the results are much much better than you'd get by cooking it the whole way through in the pan. Its perfectly cooked edge to edge and the setup time is literally seconds then it can sit there cooking in the background whilst you do other stuff. We were given one of these just recently and...
