Re: Randomness
"Did EDM kill Avicii"? No, it existed before he was born. It could have been what his parents were listening to as they conceived him.

Re: Love Island
Rev is correct. I didn't expect to enjoy it but it's like Big Brother before it got samey or constrained by trying not to hurt the snowflakes' feelings. Last night's show was a corker.

You'd be OK if it wasn't the tinned stuff though? Surely?

Re: Hire Harry's boat
Weirdly, I sort of get what GG is on about. For example, I like narrowboats and canal holidays. We went on a few as a kid but I haven't done it as an adult with my family as it's so expensive (as much as going abroad). Or, you can buy a part share in one for the equivalent of 5 x 1 week holidays (a...

Re: Hire Harry's boat
I'm also amused that Jobbo doesn't associate deck shoes with sailing 👍🏼 You wear proper shoes for sailing: https://www.musto.com/en_GB/accessories/footwear/sailing-footwear/?sz=12&start=0 Note that the deck shoe style is called 'Harbour moccasin'. Or you could use them while walking around on y...

Re: The Watches Thread
The Snowflake's face is original. The face being round, the fact that it has lug mountings for a strap, the fact that it uses a crown to adjust the time - if you want something which goes against the grain, that's like saying you should deviate from a steering wheel and circular tyres on a car :D Ab...

Re: Hire Harry's boat
Fiberglass is the American spelling Jobbo, so floats just fine. 😉 Sailing is fun for a few hours and they look pretty, but it gets pretty tiring quite quickly travelling at a few knots at some stupid angle trying to get somewhere. For example, say you had a boat in Palma, Mallorca; you could sail a...

Some Grand Seikos are more like a Lexus LFA - beautiful and desirable in their own way, not as a pastiche of a European ideal.

If I hadn't said it before, congratulations Jobbo 8-) @ weather. You wouldn't have expected that when booking the wedding. Fortunately that was in Birmingham and the wedding was in Cheltenham. Birmingham had a ridiculous amount of rain in a short time on 27 May: https://youtu.be/-fU4GSXXjgU

Re: The Watches Thread
Those pushers are utterly ridiculous. There aren't many Grand Seikos I actually like (your Snowflake being one of them); Seiko seem keen to make as many variants of Grand Seiko as they do Seiko 5, just with much better finishing.

Re: Hire Harry's boat
I like boats, but I'd always want one with a mast. Not a gin palace.
ETA: but not for canals - I'd have a steel hull in preference to fibreglass though.

Re: The Weather Thread.
I didn't notice this thread because it was posted on my wedding day. We were bloody lucky; it rained pretty hard just before and during the ceremony then thundered as we came out but remained dry after that. Some guests didn't make it; apparently the M5 was shut though they had problems closer to ho...

Re: Hire Harry's boat
Does fiberglass float? I'd prefer it to be made of fibreglass or glassfibre. Having not chartered a luxury yacht (pronounced mangrove), I had to look up APA. It's 'Advance Provisioning Allowance', usually 30-35% of the daily charter fee, and is a deposit against the cost of fuel, food, drink etc con...

I was going to suggest a Puma but that's not Swedish enough, so a Volvo 480 ES: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 6167560730
A petrol version of her S40 (the Dutch one which is basically a Mitsubishi Carisma underneath, not the later Focus-based one) would be a pragmatic choice.
