Re: Track Day Instruction
Surely they can supply comms for open or racecars ? I've had a couple of sessions of tuition in the FF (one with Rory Butcher!). Both times the format was: Reference lap set by instructor Sample lap from me Review of data and video Further laps from me More review of data and video Laps in Honda Ci...

Re: Indy 2 Electric Boogaloo
This isn't a power-grab via independence, it's a power-grab by forcing the refusal of independence. There is absolutely no way on earth the supreme court is going to grant indyref2 legal status, so the debate over the traditional independence arguments is completely moot. IMO - the situation will pl...
Re: Westfield
https://bluewireautomotive.com/collections/door-popper-systems ?? Lots of force and they are fast from memory, throw might be easier to achieve with a pivot though. That's very close to what I started with. The little ones aren't strong enough, the big ones are too bulky (unless I remote mount them...
Re: Westfield
Zed - Andy's set-up wouldn't suit. He has a million horsepower and doesn't care about drag. Mine is more, errr, shall we say "nuanced" ;) James - I've been through various thoughts, including various hydraulic pumps, but really really want to avoid adding weight and complication. Yes, I'll...
Re: Westfield
How's your Westfield doing Nef? Still doing the aero experiments? All hunky dorry, but it hasn't been out in a while. It had a couple of weeks TLC to renew some sensors, fix an oil leak, and address a couple of other niggles, but then I got distracted by racecar stuff and haven't had it out since! ...

Re: End of an era
Re. the timeline - I signed up in late 2012 and prepped the car under the guidance of Barry and Tim. My first race was early 2013. Barry retired at the end of 2013, I bought the car and all the kit, persuaded Scott to swap his camera for some spanners, and Strong Broo was born. First race under the ...

End of an era
Today, I agreed a sale of the Formula Ford  The game was over. The championship has been cancelled due to shortage of numbers and catastrophic mismanagement (some might say deliberate) by the club. In truth, I was probably coming towards the end anyway. The last two races with the national boys...
Re: Jack envy
That is indeed the kiddie, Mik. (From Screwfix or Toolstation, on offer at £105 or similar) You'd probably like the other one too - it's an Arcan "racing" jack. Basically the same as the Hilka but half the weight. Bought from Costco many years ago. Like this, but not horrid green https://a...

Re: Exhaust gas analyser.
I do actually have one - donated by the manager of the local Kwikfit (along with a whole bunch of other tools they were meant to destroy when the new ones arrived).
Looks roughly like this:
I've never used it though...

Re: I can make you feel old
Scott and I have just spent the weekend away racing with our new (ish) spanner man and his girlfriend, and the "oh fuck, how old are we" moments came thick and fast. Two that spring immediately to mind: - me referring to climbing out of the window of the Mini as "Duke of Hazzard"...

Re: New total displacement fred
Jag - 4 TVR - 4.5 Clio - 2 Merc - 3 Ray - 1.6 Minis (x2/3) - 1.1 Boat - 2.8 I think that's a grand total of 19l You missed the spare engine for the mini so can claim a full 1.6 for those. Also you are missing a full 2.0 for the Westfield. Amateur. If we're counting engines that are just sat on the ...

Re: The iPod
Gosh - I've got 2 iPods still in daily use! I mostly run the living room and bedroom music off a Gen6 - better quality than bluetooth from my phone, and I don't accidentally interrupt the music if I'm browsing FB at the same time. Also nice to just pick it up, take it upstairs and carry on listening...

Re: I did make another thing
New owner? Has this answered the "what weekend car for £5k" question? It's for the manager/landlord bloke at my workshop. He's super excited, but doesn't have loads of experience with quick cars. On the up side, it means he's easy to impress, but I do also need it to be quite 'friendly'. ...

Re: Why hasn't 'Mercuh gone metric?
People get bizarrely and disproportionately upset about changing, as if the units we measure things in is critical to their very identities. Look at the metric martyrs in the 70s - measuring in pounds and ounces became a point of crystallidation for all people's fears over closer ties with Europe (a...
Re: P&O
I saw some interviews with the agency staff they bussed in on the day, and lots were saying they hadn't even been told their new work was on a ship, let alone that they'd be wholesale replacing entire crews. Apart from the callous underhandedness of it all, it does imply some fairly serious safety c...
Re: Ukraine
Recipe ? Polystyrene dissolved in petrol to make a sticky flammable goo, in a glass bottle that will break on impact. Not hugely dissimilar to napalm. Nip of cooking oil in the top too - stops the flame on the rag accidentally sending the whole thing up in your hand, and makes the splash bigger whe...
