Re: Crash diet fatty edition
Calorie counting is the only thing that has ever worked for me. Suprise suprise, if you eat fewer calories than you burn then you lose weight! This. I got the MyfitnessPal app when I wanted to lose weight, set myself a target, and it was straightforward to get a good chunk off. I find that if you'r...

If I was a betting man I'd say there was definitely going to be an election in less than 2.5 years.

Re: Bye Bye Liz...
"Truss will likely be one of Britain's most mediocre prime ministers," tweeted Hu Xijin, a commentator for the Chinese Communist Party-affiliated Global Times.
She's not very popular in Russia and China state media, which is probably a compliment actually.

Re: Bye Bye Liz...
You either have rampant inflation or a recession to sort it out. I wouldn’t want to be either party dealing with the economy later this year. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-02/uk-already-in-recession-with-outlook-for-stagflation-niesr-says Stagflation old chap, worst of both worlds.

Re: Bye Bye Liz...
I predict Starmer will win the next GE, and Boris the one after that. I'm far from convinced Starmer will win. I expect it'll be no majority, but beyond that I think it's impossible to predict, not least given how the next 12mo may or may not pan out. My assessment of Starmer winning is based...

Re: Bye Bye Liz...
Once it got down to those two, there was no good choice unfortunately. Right now the only thing that I'm really interested in is staving off rampant inflation, minimising the impact of a recession, and keeping government spending in check. I had more faith in Sunak than Truss in that regard, but he ...

Re: Bye Bye Liz...
Sunak isn't very likable, but I'm inclined to agree with his point that Truss's plans for the economy are flawed on a pretty basic level. I don't think the people that voted for her can really get their head round the fact that if inflation is out of control it's irrelevant what taxes you cut as tha...

Re: The Watches Thread
Treated myself to a new watch, been on the look out for something for a while and as soon as I saw this I knew it fitted the bill in terms of size and simple style. Got a basic automatic movement and so probably a touch over priced for what it is, but I still love it and it has a nice feel to it. ht...

Re: No F1 thread?
They made a mistake going for the win TBH, once the SC was called it wasn't really on anymore*. They'd have been better to double stack, put soft on both and bring home the 2-3. If they left both out then MV (and maybe CL) would have driven around them anyway. * - I actually think that MV would have...

When you read the summary it makes you wonder why Alpine even challenged it! Looks pretty clear cut to me, they must be getting terrible legal advice. In general it seems like Alpine didn't really treat him like a valuable commodity relative to the value of a seat with them. Mclaren obviously see a ...

Also worth noting, bikes aren't just about going quickly, Marv and I had a blast last weekend just pottering around N.Wales. They're great for adventures too, so liberating knowing you can go virtually anywhere. A road trip isn't a road trip if you're not worried about losing low hanging bits of bo...

Re: Where would you live?
Nice detached house with plenty of garage space in a village with a decent pub by the coast in Cornwall would fit the bill.
Where we live now actually ticks quite a few boxes though, could do with another bedroom and a double garage, but apart from that it's pretty good.

McSwede FWIW I spent some time in Cusco some years ago, and the story went that Machu Picchu wasn't too taxing. Huayna Picchu is supposedly a lot tougher, so if you're going that bit it might get more fun. :) Hopefully Cusco is still as lively as when I was there anyway! Look forward to the trip re...

I often find places like that are at their most stunning in those conditions, but that's based on a couple of days. I don't know whether you get over the spectacle and then it's just miserable if you're living there.

Congrats @Gwaredd, good work. I've often thought about being self employed, the the whole not working = not earning stuff would feel like a big weight to carry. You really get the sense of relief in your post. My job is pretty stressful, there's something I could do (and I'm probably better at) tha...
