Re: 3 kids - isofix

In my eyes a properly fixed seatbelt mount seat will be safer. Isofix was just designed to remove the user error of badly fitting a seat, make it as plug and play as possible. Indeed. The reason for the weight limits on isofix seats is because the whole system has a design limit of 33kg (18kg child...

Re: Your fleet running reports

My brother bought a brand new Grande Punto and still has it 15 years later. Might get another 5 out of it.

I swap cars too often (106 GTI at 7 years was the longest) but I still have the Ducati Monster I bought over 12 years ago after taking my bike test.

Re: 3 kids - isofix

Multimac works well for a mate with an Octavia and twins plus an older kid - they'd only just bought the car when they found out about the twins. Spendy but they hold their value really well, and given they cover the whole age range (then you can use a 3-point belt with them) you'll get plenty of us...

Re: Career change / mid-life crisis.

Yeah, I've just cruised since having kids. Had loads of spare time before that for studying/research/exams which helped progress but I just can't be bothered any more. Should probably be trying to pivot to the next big thing (for the fourth time - IT is roughly a 6-7 year cycle) but meh. Friend in h...

Re: Coronavirus

Wife managed to get covid. Kids had minor colds, she started feeling under the weather towards the end of the week and assumed it was the same, LFD tested as a precaution on Sunday and she has it but the rest of us don't. Did PCR tests to confirm. Not sure how that works given we spent a week away t...

Ioniq 5 looks ace, just a bit big for us. Saw my first Ioniq5 on the road this week as it happens, it looked smart. My "old" Ioniq goes back in Feb, still pondering my next choice, I'd like a Kona or similar but lease prices seem to be chasing 2nd hand prices.. 20% up on last year. That ca...

I don’t like it but it’s not for me. Have steadily reduced the stuff attached to the TV and don’t even bother recording any more. Everything is easy to just stream when I want it and the Apple TV is pretty good at combining search and what I’m watching across the various services. My parents though ...

Re: Petrol the new toilet roll

Electricity would have to be about 48p a unit before the cost of driving matched a 50mpg petrol or diesel car. Current 12 month fixes are expensive but less than half that.

A win for tubeless last night - heading to the night ride meeting spot, must have hit a chunk of glass or something on the road. Loud psssssh, sealant spraying out. Spun wheel so it was at the bottom, bit of sealant dribbled but it just about held, not well enough to ride on though. Got out the jabb...

Re: Petrol the new toilet roll

More than half the fuel in this country is sold by supermarkets, and I wonder if/when they prioritise getting food into stores over (minimal profit) petrol. Quite glad one of the cars just plugs in and fills up overnight. @thelorryist is worth a follow on twitter, one of his supermarket shifts just ...

Not sure if it’s rectified now but at least 5 years ago mclaren still used a 1990s laptop running a dos operating system for the McLaren f1’s https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/jalopnik.com/this-ancient-laptop-is-the-only-key-to-the-most-valuabl-1773662267/amp Apparently they have an interface for mode...

Stepwgn MOT passed, no issues. Still loving this weird, boxy, slow, thirsty thing. Need to dig out the replacement tailgate (bought 2 years ago now) from the back of the garage and get that fitted and painted. eGolf goes back in January and with the weird state of both the new and used car market I ...

Initial D Legend 1 is free on Amazon Prime, it's a "retelling" (abridged) of the early story but remastered, was done a few years ago so looks/sounds great and no mucking about with subtitle files, weird video formats and the like. 2 and 3 are 99p to rent or a few quid to buy. https://en.w...

This also reminds me, I have what I think are japanese TV aerials at the top of the Stepwgn screen, and a aftermarket GPS puck on the dash that I need to remove at some point.

Re: Guess the mystery device (attached to windscreen)

It looks a little like a device my old boss had which told you of traffic conditions on the motorway - this was back in the mid to late 90's and predated most SatNav The display had 3 lights - one for 5 miles 10 miles and 15 miles - Green if clear, Amber of slower than 40mph and red of stationary. ...

Re: 'Remote control' screen for back seat

Trouble with Miracast/airplay is that you can’t do something else on the source device. There are cheap 10+” displays that take HDMI, could hook up a phone to that (which you keep in the front, avoiding the reach-around) but again, leaves the device tied up. Realistically how far away are you from s...
