Re: Laptops....

Sorry, missed this. No, I don't have a Surface, but have recently deployed a couple of the Laptop 3 15" versions. I would agree that they are really nice machines. One did have some restart glitches when doing Surface updates (drivers), meaning forced restarts. No probs with the charger and th...

Re: The House Projects Thread

I've been pondering building a nice office/sun room/shed in the garden but not doing much more that pondering TBH. Then someone sent me to the diysheds.co.uk and now I've designed what I want and am getting quotes for materials. Might just be taking a week off work in the spring to build something ...

Re: Coronavirus

I dont know about anyone else but we looked to book cornwall for may and it was the same price as last year a short while ago. Today, Sykes cottages have absolutely ripped the piss out of prices. For example 2 bed decent apartment was 700 now 2500 for a week. May be staying at home a while longer :...

Re: The Weather Thread.

Bright and sunny here in Plymouth. With the wind and freezing temperatures it's doing a good job at drying the grass out, I might even get it cut later!

Mito, does your dad still have the F150?

Swervin_Mervin Still on run flats currently. Once they've worn out I'll change them to normal tyres.

Re: Suggest a car

Rich is correct. They were looking rather scabby around the centre caps and on the diamond cut faces, I was offered the option to have them refurbed at cost, but having driven a friends 330, I found the ride was rather firm on the 19's hence wanting 18's I'm also a secret member of the small wheel a...

This will be my fourth, two of those were over 100k, including my M5. I'm not too worried about the mileage, it looks well looked after, and regularly serviced. I don't see it being too much of an issue.

Re: Suggest a car

Well, as we all knew I would, I've bought at 330d. 62 plate, Estoril blue, 11 services, adaptive headlights, probably other jazz that I've forgotten. Currently on 19's but they're being swapped out for 18's. Millage is higher than ideal, at 120000, but the overall condition of the car makes me think...

Re: Suggest a car

I think all roads do lead to a 330d, or a variation of. I tried a C250 cdi today. On paper it ticked all the boxes, 62 plate, 52,000 miles, very well maintained, but it didn't feel £5000 better than the golf. I think that's going to be the thing that I'm going to struggle with. Aside from the BMW, I...

Re: Suggest a car

Oh you and your sensible suggestions Jobbo.
A golf is what I have at the moment, albeit a MK5, and obviously it's one of the more sensible options, a 6 cylinder is so much more appealing though. A shame the 250 mercs aren't 6's.

Re: Suggest a car

Were steering racks ever a recall issue, or just a suck it up item outside of warranty?
Rich B it's an auto, so hopefully no slack gear changes.

Re: Suggest a car

F31 330d circa 100,000 miles. Aside from the usual buy on condition, is there anything I should be looking for? From my research so far they seem pretty reliable, even the one make forums aren't too full of doom and gloom.

I want to get away from 32mpg, not be stuck in a perpetual visit to the petrol station.

Re: Suggest a car

AT is quite useful for this sort of thing, On top of price, age and mileage, you can select filters for estate, 40/50mpg, acceleration, Etc... I always do this when musing in new cars, then I buy the BMW I was originally looking at. I'm fairly sure this is what I'll end up doing  XF still look...

Re: Suggest a car

Some good suggestions, thank you. I hadn't thought of a Jag, that could potentially be a good way to waft along the miles. Merc's have never really appealed to me, but thinking about it, I'm not sure that I've ever even sat in one. So prehaps I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss them. An F30 330d is m...

Re: Suggest a car

Volvo's are a good shout. Although for some reason I have it in my mind that the XC70 has a huge running cost.
Skoda is also a good idea. The estate doesn't need to be huge MK5 Golf or slightly larger.

I've started a new job which involves a commute of 25,000 miles a year, my current car (MK5 golf) is costing a fortune in fuel. The commute is 85% dual carriageway. What can the hive mind suggest? Budget £10k Needs to be an estate Does more than 32mpg Looking at Mondeo's and Mazda 6's and possibly 3...
