Re: Rtx 30 series cards
A friend of mine who I talk nerd with on occasion said he thought GFX cards were going to drop in price finally toward the end of this year following the crypto crash. I'd like to believe that's true and not just wishful thinking - I have a soft spot for those Nvidia cards with the Noctua fans.

All I'm taking from this as I watch it Mik, is that you're FUCKED if you're ever on a sinking ship.

A reasonable understanding of material science is great - you wouldn't believe some of the shit that gets put in marketing which is total hokum.

Re: What have you got that's one of a kind?
It'd be fascinating to dive down the rabbit of what particularly combination of spectral characteristics like resonance and damping gives the subjective "warm" "dry" impressions. There are a LOT of variables. As I recently discovered, though thankfully not to my expense, you can...

Re: Best driving games(Xbox one/PC)
I have to admit, I'm finding my rig is making the world of difference to playing the games over anything else I've tried. Robust is good!

I'd love to know the business model behind these. The Camaro is cool no doubt, but perhaps not a universal icon like the Mini or the Mustang. So is it relying on a large bunch of sales in the US to all the Camaro fanboys or is it simply using the 'very cool old car, car geeks will buy it' angle to m...

Re: The House Projects Thread
So we've had one builder round to check over the two fucked bathroom floors, another was due but cancelled due to COVID, to return soon fingers crossed. While we were at it, we mentioned that two of the three Valsir in-wall toilets leak so much water they're ruining our water bill despite having the...

Re: What have you got that's one of a kind?
I think my coolness increased significantly just by reading that! TIL a whole bunch of interesting stuff on drum materials! Many thanks KD! Now I want to know what a carbon fibre reinforced ebony drum would sound like. There's probably a Python script for the calculations already... Anyway, certain...

Re: Anyone any (genuine) expertise in binoculars?
See every customer I ever sold them to. Last people I recommended them to was a couple of representatives from an Iwi (Tribe) here who were going on a science voyage back the Kermadec Islands. They weren't scientists but they wanted to be able to see whales and birds and maybe use them to gaze...

Re: Anyone any (genuine) expertise in binoculars?
I used to sell them a lot when I worked in the camera stores. By the sounds of it you've arrived at about the right choice for them - 8 or 10x42 were pretty popular and a sweet spot. Higher mag and you couldn't hold them still without the stabilisation models, bigger elements and they weighed too mu...

Re: What have you got that's one of a kind?
Good call on the artworks - I hadn't thought of that. I have a few small pieces which are one-offs, but as pointed out, I guess all oil paintings are? Inconel drum - the construction of it is a rolled and welded shell so that's already hard. The guy tends to price his shells in number of drill bits ...

Re: What have you got that's one of a kind?
Two of my snare drums are kinda unique - one which is almost a production model but I managed to have it named (in lieu of serial numbers) after my mother in memory of her. The second has a badge with my signature on it. Third one in bound soon-ish, that one uses a standard shell and hardware (I say...

Ex Japanese PM, shot while giving a speech and not in a good way.

Fairly big deal in Japan where gun crime is almost unheard of.

Currently exploiting a glitch that gets you limitless tickets to win fancy ass engines for engine swapping. Had to bust my ass this week to get far enough in the game to unlock the levels where the ticket is released in order to expose the glitch. 13/16 of the engines and counting while I spin the r...

Re: Randomness
The island is cut off by the tide twice a day - it’s to get to it when the tide is in. I’ve not just been on it, my ex-stepson got to drive it 😎 (just steering, but so nice of the driver to let him). That's the most delightfully old-school, utterly mental, yet entirely practical solution for that p...

Just getting into this now and really enjoying it so far - suspect I'm not deep enough in yet to notice new cars added, but more the merrier!
