Re: Baltimore Bridge Collision

you can have a dozen pilots, if you can't control it and you're at the whim of the currents I'm confident @IanF could have averted this. I read elsewhere that there would indeed have been a pilot on-board for this section. I meant an escort tug, sorry, we always just used to call it the pilot, but ...

Re: Baltimore Bridge Collision

When I was working on the Thames, the PLA would insist on tug escorts for anything of any sort of size, and actually insisted there was some pulling capacity on site even when we had fully spudded barges without secondary moorings. Maybe there just isn't the funds for it in heavily trafficked commer...

Re: Baltimore Bridge Collision

Surprised there isn't a pilot when pulling out under a bridge like that TBH. I mean, they radio'd in a mayday saying they'd lost control of the vessel - you can have a dozen pilots, if you can't control it and you're at the whim of the currents, you're basically fucked regardless. I meant a pilot/t...

Re: No F1 thread?

I'm not bothering watching this year. I've limited free time in my life and its not best spent watching fish pout win easily, nor paying more to Sky for the privilege. Will tune back in for 2025. I'm in much the same situation, can't justify a couple of hours out of my weekend to watch mostly borin...

Re: No F1 thread?

I don’t think the core chassis is ever upgraded during a season? That would then invoke a raft of new crash tests with the FIA and every part would have to be adapted to fit? You might be right on that, but it will be another legitimate reason, supply chain issue etc etc. All I'm getting at is that...

Re: No F1 thread?

Good to see someone else winning today, am I the only one who felt like all media outlets (from Sky where I watched the race, to Gunther in the interviews, to the BBC race report) tried to really play down the reality that Max's car was fucked from the start and that was the only reason Carlos won t...

Re: No F1 thread?

It's been a month since winter testing and Williams haven't managed to make a spare chassis yet. James Vowles can bitch about the old Excel system as much as he wants but it's been a month ffs. Surely there could be any number of reasons for that? Perhaps they have an upgraded chassis in the wings ...

Re: Cayman/Boxter RIP.

The whole USP of the 911 is having the engine in the wrong place. An EV could never replicate that driving experience. For that reason an EV "911" will never be a real 911. They should just kill it off. It will be interesting to see where they go with a 911 EV, a usable sports car like th...

Re: Cayman/Boxter RIP.

I wonder if they sacked off their sports cars altogether whether their SUV sales would be impacted much. How much of their SUV desirability comes from the sports car heritage? I reckon the Cayenne / Macan are sufficiently well established they could stand on their own. Make the Taycan the halo car,...

Re: 6 Nations

It was a great championship this year, so many fierce close games. From an England perspective I'm happy with it as a building year, feel like Borthwick has shown enough progression that it's not time to start worrying. I feel for Wales, they are obviously at the start of a new cycle. It is great fo...

Re: I used to be with "it"

I've lost count of the correct word to describe a muscular person. At various points it's been ripped, stacked, then it became hench, now I think it's something else. I'm too old for this shit. Although I rather enjoy acting like an old git, I'm spending quite a bit of time with people in their 20s ...

Re: Euromillions immediate purchase

I guess the same thing applies to hot tubs, my mate has got one and it was a great place to sit with a drink in the winter after a few beers out, I instantly wanted one. I just think it would end up being one of those things that you spend £££k getting a nice set up for, more £££ heating, just for t...
