Re: Bye bye Starmer
Is the rent a pittance? I'd imagine just chucking wild flower seeds and entering the stewardship scheme would be better and you won't end up with land which will not be tied up forever more and looking out to an eyesore. Clearly not a pittance! Although I do wonder how many are on inherited land be...
Re: Rum Fred
Remember evostick? Formerly of this parish? He got me into rum properly as he recommended Mount Gay XO. He has a lot to answer for really. Anyway, sadly they changed the recipe a few years ago and it got more serious, and more ££. But it used to be perfect. Fruity, sweet, and neckable. And zero adde...

Re: Bye bye Starmer
They are. Like wind farms also. The landowner will just get a "rent", for want of a better word.
Re: Rum Fred
Nice, and happy birthday! Although, as a rum snob, I'll just point out that Diplomatico (especially the Reserva Exclusiva) is more of a rum liqueur than a rum. It has one of the highest added sugar %ages of any of the adulterated rums. Spiced rums, by and large, are also fairly heavily adulterated w...

Re: Bye bye Starmer
Yeah, diplomats don’t get paid as much as you’d think do they. The carrot must be the hope of an ambassadorial or cabinet post. Just increase their allowance. Oh yeah, I'm fine with that. I just can't get my head around not increasing their allowance and, instead, asking a business to now give a di...

Re: Bye bye Starmer
This is a peach from the FCDO - ask for a discount from private schools to mitigate the increase from VAT: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/foreign-office-pleads-for-discounts-from-private-schools-after-vat-raid/ar-AA1tzdPT I mean why wouldn't the Gov't just exempt military or diplomatic familie...

Re: Your fleet running reports
If it's black, round and legal why pay more? I imagine that's what 95% of the public thinks. You're giving them too much credit for even thinking tbh. They'll just drop into Halfords/National/Kwik Fit and be told they need new tyres, and then be given a price. Maybe a couple of prices, and they'll ...

Re: Bye bye Starmer
Trust funds appear to be a whole other (massive) loophole. 40% IHT on his £9.4billion would almost solve the UK budget "black hole" that we're all now facing the consequences of.... :geek: They do pay tax. Just not in the same way Yeah sorry - I know trusts aren't tax free. Whilst I am no...

Re: Bye bye Starmer
Yes I was wondering when someone would mention him. He's worth billions, owns swathes of the poshest parts of London, and yet didn't the estate didn't pay IHT when his Dad died. Something deeply wrong there! Trust funds appear to be a whole other (massive) loophole. 40% IHT on his £9.4billion would...

It's all in trust though with him, so tax will be paid in a different way.

What's the aversion to stop/start? Galaxy has it and it works well. Requires about two seconds of anticipation to dip the clutch ahead of the lights changing, but I always use it. Cuts noise and unnecessary pollution. In the case of the Superb it's simply a pretty crude system, like I've found on e...

Re: "Always on" or "Always off" button?
Nothing gets switched on or off in the E91 - it's old enough to be a get in and go car.
Superb - stop/start gets switched off immediately, and the seat dropped a half inch (the memory seats don't ever fully return the seat to it's absolute lowest setting which is very annoying).

Re: Bye bye Starmer
Pretty much. But odds on those very rich sorts having complicated tax structures minimising the impact on them whilst the small family farms get screwed over. As is the usual case. Cynic in me also says it’s a clever way to release land for development. Farmer dies, kids forced to sell off a portio...

More details of the 992 centre lock recall here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=230&t=2097699&i=20 - owners have been told not to drive them. ETA: includes Caymans and Boxsters, and Panameras too - not just 911s. But obviously only models with centre locks. Makes me...
