Re: Which?
Wow. The results of the poll fly in the face of the widely accepted theory that people are risk-loving on potential gains, but risk-averse on potential losses. And not just a little bit either! Personally, I'd go for the coin flip every time. Average expected outcome of £5m vs £1m seems a no-brainer...

Re: For the fTAO of Nef
Sorry for the slow reply - I've been off on my hols. Funnily enough, at the time of "peak hovercraft", we actually looked at doing something around setting up a commercial hovercraft service. You can pick up those big Griffons remarkably cheaply - IIRC there was a 30 seater one come up for...

OK, a few of my recent listenings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Guc3xSj7wQs&list=RDGuc3xSj7wQs&start_radio=1 I only discovered this a few months ago, but it features vocals from a chap called Tenor Fly. Many years ago I helped him move house! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBEuQQFCKTk&am...

Re: FTAO the Scotchish contingent
I find Balmoral Chicken (stuffed with haggis, wrapped in smokey bacon) to be the acceptable face of haggis consumption. I'm not drinking at the moment, so the whisky element was included as part of a whisky and mustard sauce to accompany the above. And neeps and tatties needn't be overcooked. Nice f...

Re: Boring 190E cosworth poll
In a possible correction to my earlier post, Wikipedia says the the Cosworth designation for the 2.3 was WAA, for the 2.5 was WAB and for the 2.5 Evo was WAC.

Re: Boring 190E cosworth poll
IIRC, Keith Duckworth refers to the development of both in his autobiography. By the time the Ford and Merc partnerships happened, Cosworth had already split its plant into one where the exciting stuff happened, and one to work on these cash-cow/marketing-driven partnerships. It's a while since I re...

Re: Pie or no pie
As an aside, Butterscotch Angel Delight is one of my guilty pleasures.
Which is even more surprising when I know how similar Angel Delight is to Bisto Gravy granules. Sure, it has sugar and flavourings, but it's basically maltodextrin and filler (milk powder for AD, potato starch for Bisto).

What about pies with a bottom but no top? Custard pie, Pecan pie etc etc
I fear the horse has already bolted with regard to keeping the pie definition pure

Re: 2023 Cheese Of The Year
Slightly sticking up for the "cheese with stuff in" camp, I'm going to give a nice Morbier a special mention. I've not tried it but having looked it up, is the layer of ash in the middle not just part of the process of making it? It's not like the Wensleydale with cranberries sort of crap...

Re: 2023 Cheese Of The Year
I still don't think cheese should be tainted by other things being infused or mixed into it, so I'm not sure about truffle brie. I’m generally 100% with you on that. But this was very much an exception to that rule. Slightly sticking up for the "cheese with stuff in" camp, I'm going to gi...

Re: 2023 Cheese Of The Year
Not a new recommendation, but the Tesco Finest Chaource is very good in that mushroomy earthy kinda way Their Reblichon is actually pretty good too. Another one I've mentioned before, if you like a milder cheese, is the Asda Manchego knock-off. They call it "Iberico" and is actually (to my...

Re: 2023 review / 2024 plans
All a bit predictable for 2020, given circumstances. Work-wise, not much doing on the contract front, although a couple of minor kitchen/bathroom jobs paid for this years racing. On the letting front it's been a case of damage limitation - at the beginning of first lockdown, I mentally wrote off £1...

Adidas Goodyear Adi-racers are pretty good too.
I have a pair of very lightweight Adidas Porsche somethings, but I think they were a special edition
I also find climbing shoes very good to drive in - compact, stiff soles and rubber all the way up the heal

Re: Gavster's Mince Pie Ranking 2021 (now inc NEW 2022 updates)
Worth mentioning on this thread - I've had a couple of boxes of the Morrison's in-store bakery mince pies. They're quite a different kettle of fish to the usual mince pie offering - mostly down to the stuff/pastry ratio. I haven't fully decided if this is a good thing or not, but the pastry is like...

Re: Garage Door Servicing
That noise sounds quite similar to a problem I've seen on a garage door. The one in question was a motorised up-and-over, so a bit different. It has nylon wheels on the end of a scissor arm that run in a track. One of the nylon wheels had come loose and wasn't running straight, so the mechanism was ...

Re: Mice - One for Mito?
Indeed. Hopefully that'll do that trick. I'm still unsure about dumping some poison in the wall as I don't really want a dead rat (which I think it is) stinking the place out if it dies in there.. tricky one. The *new* poisons are desiccating, so they dry the bodies out and (theoretically) don't st...

Re: Mice - One for Mito?
I'm not proud to admit I have given up on humane methods of dealing with mice, so it's poison and sticky traps all the way. I used to be far more sympathetic to their cause, but I fucked up a few years ago. We were redoing our kitchen and I brought a roll of Rockwool into the house that had been in ...
