Re: Been a shitty week
That is a truly shitty thing. I lost my mum in a car accident in the Pyrenees in 2010, and posted on here from the foyer of some hotel in the middle of nowhere, and found it somewhat cathartic. Words are always inadequate at times like these, and there is little consolation that can be offered, but ...

Re: Commercial property for private use
Oh and worth mentioning that pre-fab steel sheds are *very* cheap. If you're buying, it may work out better/cheaper to find a suitable brownfield site and stick your own building on it.

Re: Commercial property for private use
We have looked (are still looking) for a solution similar to what Mr. Cola suggests. Between myself and my garage co-habitee, we need space for around 8 cars, but ideally would find a place with about double that, and make the whole venture net-profitable by letting the remaining spaces as storage (...

Re: What's wrong with yours?
If you think it's pad deposits, go and give it a couple of big hard stops (after warming up the brakes first, or course) and see if it improves. I had assumed when you said the garage had checked, we had already ruled out pads/discs/caliper mounts. And yes, ball joint-based vibration can come on qui...

Re: What's wrong with yours?
Grrr...all is not as rosy in the Nef stable as I had previously thought. After fixing the water pump in the disco, it has gradually started developing a worsening overheating problem. Pressurising the system and eventually blowing all the coolant out. The optimist in me hoped for some kind of airloc...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
OK, I'm going to try one more time. What if we were talking about healthcare instead of education? Would it be acceptable to you that 50% of hospitals took public funding, but were only willing to treat patients of a particular faith? Would it be acceptable to insist that patients treated at those ...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
Nobody in this country is made to go to a church school. Everyone is there by choice or due to apathy. Only a few years ago, the choices in my catchment area were catholic school or CoS school. So, really my choices were pick a side or be excluded from mainstream education. Now, the CoS school is o...

Yes. I believe this is a discussion board. It's where people express their opinions.

Re: Primary school shenanigans
Where did I say ban anything? And what "world view" have I stated, beyond objecting to specific doctrines being imposed on children via an education system which should be impartial. Right here. Your world view is that religion shouldn't be "imposed on children via an education syste...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
And here comes my argument all over again: Are you advocating for the removal of a so-called religious indoctrination, to be replaced by your atheist indoctrination instead? First paragraph of my post - "teach holistically and impartially", don't "base admission and syllabus on relig...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
Neil, loads of what you assume happens just doesn't and isn't happening. Symbolism, yes. But every school has a school crest and moto, ban those too. Yes it's a tribe, they have their own shit logo, but that's how they brand themselves and you can take it or leave it. As i say, the government can't...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
As for religious indoctrination, if this is the aim of the schools, they're doing a piss-poor job of it; my 13 year old attended a C of E Primary and is currently at a C of E high school. He's a devout atheist. Good on your lad! Religious indoctrination doesn't have to mean the school is a producti...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
None of those things happen though. I'm a governor at a C of E school and I'm a devout atheist. As are my kids who attend the school. Church schools don't get additional resources from the government, they get less, because they are funded in part by the sky-pixie crew. Religious indoctrination? Wh...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
Yeah, fucking faith schools with their good results and lack of violence. Ban them. 🙄 I think you can put that eye roll away, good sir, unless you're genuinely going to try to defend a system where everybody pays, but only those willing to pledge allegiance to a particular cult get access to an eve...

Re: Primary school shenanigans
I have a friend in south London who had to pretend to be Greek Orthordox for three years so her son could go to the only school in the catchment area without regular stabbings/shootings. In the UK we have c.10% church attendance, and 53% self-identify as "having no religion", so why do we...
