I only met YK the once and he was having a tough day at Snetterton.
But even though he'd dinged the pride and joy he was still happy to chat to a fellow car guy and radiated positivity.
A fine gentleman.

Re: The Movie Thread
David Leitch double bill this weekend. Finally got around to catching up with Bullet Train Friday which was enjoyably mental action and then suitable enthused went to The Fall Guy today which was more mental, even more fun and suitable enough for the Yoblettes to come along. Great soundtrack too.

Re: The Movie Thread
I initially thought that's baffling how it happens but then remembered that Peter Jackson /& Co made The Hobbits trilogy that sucked beyond reason too.
Rebel Moon Pt1 was so bad, I'm almost tempted to watch pt2 to see if it supplants Screamers as worst Sci Fi movie I've ever seen.

Enjoying the Lotus article. That ammount of ownership shenanigans is not unexpected but I don't know who's having a worse cultural influence on who, Geely or Lotus? New site formatting on a 32" monitor of the text down to a relatively narrow column looks a little odd but works ok. Hyperlinks ki...

Indeed, Finally! Considering it's estimated more than 60% of that finding is being rolled.into broadband capability upgrades for US manufacturing the nutters held it up for a depressing amount of time.
Last week's Perun video was about US defense industry rebuilding.

Re: No F1 thread?
So if the engines are going to be working flat out as generators thereby using more fuel, does that not make the use of a hybrid powertrain pointless? Potentially "flat out" at peak efficiency revs not peak rpm. The instantaneous fuel consumption limit kinda cripples the current engines a...

Yeah, I thought him going from Witcher to WH40k is basically a rod for his back. You literally have the star power mate, just ask them to delay production for a couple of years, they'll do it . All he's done now is infuriate one fan base, and taint another - good job . Didn't Caville bail on The Wi...

Re: Decent Recent TV
Yeah, don’t send an SF team that are deployed for this sort of thing all the time and would probably not kill every man, woman and child on board.. just slice up an entire ship and then miraculously find the (undamaged) item in the 1000 tons of twisted, burning metal. Oh and then it’s unbreakable e...

8% Ginger beers over summer are a recipe for extreme naptime.
Ginger Kid my favourite although tbh I think 4% leads to a longer more enjoyable session in the sun.

Oh yeah, nano fibres reminds me: What if he held the records of the conversation in line with the fibre? The whole notion that slicing the ship to pieces was the best way to recover that information was ludicrous, probably one of the absolute weakest parts of the whole show. That was my favourite b...

I'd happily start a thread to discuss the science in the show, as I find this part of physics fascinating. I don't think I'd get many takers though. I could talk about theoretical physics all day long  Away from multidimensional stuff and nanofibres one scene struck me as unbelievable fr...

They don't understand falsehoods because they're nearly a hive mind, individual thoughts are "broadcast". Afaik they do have imagination. Why they didn't use their tech to stabilise their solar system isn't explained but I guess shifting several suns away from one another is beyond even d...

Slick site for a good cause, once the Aus petition is up I'll sign it. Really needs to be a simple broadbrush solution "if software requires any online authentication, that code must be made freely available at end of life" Yup, just open source the server auth side, and make it a local c...

My first autumnal cycle to work this morning and I berated three other riders for running stupid bright front lights pointed up at eye level.
Don't get me started on flashing fucking tail lights.

I dropped off of 3 body problem at ep5. They keep undermining their hard sci-fi for story convenience. It's been a few years but iirc they're following the book fairly closely for the main sciencey ideas. They're definitely sticking to the speed of light limit (apart from the magic of instant commu...

Re: Porsche's 2023 Results
I like the analogy of Porsche shareholders to Monacoians (Monacanites?) Surprised the SUVs aren't profitable as anecdotally there should be huge R&D and economies of scale with the closely related VW empire products. Unless the numbers are fiddled to make Porsche SUVs less profitable to push up ...

I thought it a more than reasonable bit of suspended disbelief plot. The ancient and EXTREMELY HIGH MAINTENANCE F14s still in keyturn condition was pushing it though
