Re: Car Hire Lottery

It's a manuel, and the most notable feature is a drive-by-wire clutch that allows the engine to switch off whilst being automatically and simultaneously decoupled from the transmission when you are on the motorway (or local equivalent) at speed, and you head down a hill, or deactivate the cruise to...

Re: Car Hire Lottery

Not sure if this car is broken, my 740d was pretty much the same engine with a higher tune in a bigger car and would do 40+ for the same journey, even my 550 will do between 17 and 20 mpg, even in traffic. https://i.ibb.co/g6x0vDB/IMG-0699.jpg That does look shit, but 12 miles at an average of 14mp...

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..

You can’t even see that you’re falling into that “well surely they won’t punish the “genuine” claimants” fallacy. Every single time a government does something like this sick and disabled people end up getting hurt. I assume you’re replying to me rather than Dave. I’m not falling into any fallacy -...

Re: Petrol Honda mowers

I don’t really feel like I need the compost and it’ll be mainly grass so probably not that fertile. But if the heap of clippings starts to look useful then I might formalise it a bit. Really, mulching ought to be the way to go but I reckon I’d want to cut it twice a week to make that work and I can’...

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..

There’s no way that a supermarket (for example) is going to accept a situation where anyone can sign themselves off. For most service jobs not producing a sick note for any absence longer than three days is a disciplinary offence. The law is generally pro-employee. You think the change is going to ...

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..

I assume that you’re being facetious? Employers won’t accept self certification for a longer term or recurring illness. I'm not being facetious but I don't think you're seeing it the way I do. If a sick note is not obtainable, there is no way to certify sickness except self-cert. So employers are g...

Re: Petrol Honda mowers

Dinny, that field area doesn't really have much in the way of fiddly bits - I simply drive round the edge as close to the fence/ditch as I can (should have got a wider deck...) and then keep going round until I get to the centre. No real attempt at stripes; I just want to keep it short. The rear gar...

Re: Test drive report

I'm still keen on Nimbus Grey - it's quite similar to the Quartz Silver of my old S2 Elise which is a nice link. Would probably order Atlantis Blue if going for a brand new one to my spec.

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..

It fits your point? I doubt your employment contract has anything in it about time off for pets. It was simply a decent thing to do. Nothing to do with Sunak's announcement or sick notes or rights. Ultimately Sunak's announcement benefits anyone with mental health issues now. They won't need to go t...

It is not at all beyond comprehension that an employee may request bereavement leave because their emotional support pet dies. HR law loves this stuff; it's a very grey area and who wants to spend lots of money on lawyers to be the test case?

Re: Bye Bye Sunak..

This plan is not well thought through. As ever. If doctors no longer issue sick notes, that will not change HR law. So employees will basically be entitled to self-certify their sickness instead of getting a sick note. That sounds like a recipe for employment-related claims ahoy; a field day for the...

And I just got this in a mailshot from Papa Johns. Surely this was meant to be an April Fool's prank ??? Screenshot 2024-04-19 111928.jpg You must surely be right - maybe they did it as an April Fool in a previous year and there was such a demand they have released it for real? My wife likes Jellyc...

Re: Petrol Honda mowers

I forgot to revisit this thread when my new mower arrived. Only looked at it again because I have to do a lot of mowing to do this weekend - the forecast is dry for once. I now have four mowers (and a strimmer) and I will use most of them tomorrow: new ride-on Al-ko T22 105.4; it is much less effort...

Re: Test drive report

I think you're right Scott - any of the colours (yellow, blue and red) really work with the black pack. Nimbus works with or without.

Would be nice to see the new colours in the flesh, despite most of them being different shades of blue and silver.

Re: Test drive report

That is quite useful - the diamond cut alloys look much better in the flesh than photos, and the wheels are the same on all of them just finished differently so easy to paint silver or some shade of grey if I fancied; but on the Nimbus Grey car I'm not sure they work. I was also a bit concerned that...

Perhaps the metallic red. Have a look at both the reds in the metal if you get the chance! :) In the GRP? I'm pretty sure it's only Magma Red which was used on the 2023 cars which I'd be choosing from - looks nice in photos but I haven't seen it in the flesh. Is it a bit more marmite than I w...

Forgot to mention - I saw a red S3 Esprit (non-Turbo as far as I could tell in my mirrors) driving round the Stourbridge ring road on Wednesday evening. Nice to see it being driven.
