Re: Trump

All the polls are saying it's too close to call. I don't see any merit in making a prediction but I do think after the election the outcome will be more decisive than it looks right now, and we'll wonder why we couldn't see that.

Re: Bye bye Starmer

Would the UK be better off if every HNW individual domiciled in tax havens? Reeves thought of that - did you not notice the budget announcement that the concept of domicile was being revoked and residency will be the sole test? https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/changes-to-the-taxation-of-no...

Yes, he's not an example of a farmer. He is an example of someone with a large estate who successfully avoided IHT.

Re: Bye bye Starmer

It’s funny, when I used Clarkson as an example on twitter he was also a bad one and I should’ve been looking at folk like James Dyson. I wonder who a good example would be, King Charles? ;) Duke of Westminster... https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/aug/11/inheritance-tax-why-the-new-duke-of-west...

Ooh, ouch! Taxing dead people once sounds politically much more palatable than taxing alive people once a year. Imagine if you had to sell assets each year - triggering CGT as well potentially - simply to pay your wealth tax.

Re: Harry’s Garage

Just had a look and he has a Patreon account linked.. only 11 members but it’s £54.79 a month, so £600pcm extra there. Maybe that pays his fuel cost? I’m genuinely curious what he posts in that group now (not £55 curious mind!) as that seems quite a high monthly Did we get to the bottom of this - i...

Re: Harry’s Garage

FWIW his channel did 2.9m views last month and assuming he's on a strong RPM (mainly because his audience are likely to be people with a bit of spare cash and therefore a strong target for advertisers) then he could be getting anywhere between £5-10k+ per month in ad reveneue as a YouTube partner. ...

Re: Bye bye Starmer

Like some others however I object to IHT in principle. It's a tax on wealth that has already been taxed multiple times. For your house (the primary trigger of IHT for the vast majority) all your earnings that allowed you to purchase the property have already been taxed, and the purchase of the prop...

Re: Carrera T

Better get the PDK then - the 992 Carrera T was lighter than the Carrera and only the manual version was slowest; the PDK version is slightly quicker than the base Carrera. I think this gen of T is manual only? It is, but the one Elon used was a 992.1 available with PDK. The 992.2 T is quicker.

What did Lotus call the silver paint? Was that New Aluminium?

Classic Elise colour anyway, excellent choice.

Re: Harry’s Garage

If he hadn't sold the Emira he wouldn't have lost £28k  I'd say the hard cash out of your pocket is far more noticeable than depreciation of a car.

Re: Harry’s Garage

Harry also doesn't acknowledge that the Fulvia Zagato and XJ-C won't be worth anything like what he's spent on them. I bet value against spend is further into the red on either one of those than the Emira. Crystallising your losses is a surefire way of suffering depreciation; if he'd kept the Emira ...

Also, like Alex I don't understand the aversion to stop/start. It works.

Have you not considered getting the ultimate 80s accessory, a motorised aerial kit? You can be the coolest kid on the green lane as you click your ignition on, and the aerial extends by itself 8-) You've never had a Japanese car with the aerial in the A-pillar, have you? It's brilliant; I don't thi...

Re: Your fleet running reports

Macan is now on its winter wheels. Once I'd got the stack of wheels out of the garage it was fairly quick - probably 25 mins getting eveyrthing out and in the right places and 10 mins to actually change them. Prompted by a puncture again though, annoying. More fun was learning a bit more about the M...

Re: "Always on" or "Always off" button?

Since I took a year to realise that you can turn off the lane assist by holding the end of the stalk in my Audi, for ages I didn't automatically turn it off and didn't find it terrible. But now I do that before I leave the drive. The other thing I do is put my destination into the nav on Carplay so ...
