Re: Your fleet running reports

And yet you gleefully deprived us all of an opportunity to inform you "well I wouldn't have done it like that" as you shear off apparently critical structures with gay abandon.

Are you talking about SJ's spannering or Beany's pole dancing?

My spannering. Beany's approach to the pole is ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

I’m only joking. Just keep it tasteful, yeah ?

Especially out front where the neighbours can see.

I keep the grass out front very neat.

(this is a euphemism)

DJ, Newt, Ian - it's nice to know that you see my pain as a spectator sport now

Not a spectator sport as such, we're simply offering to be withstanders supporting you in your car related challenges.

Bring a BBQ and some beers and we might have a deal.

Beany will do pole dancing ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

I’ve been reading up about the balancer shaft sprocket issue our merc ‘should’ be afflicted with. Watched a few videos and started thinking that pulling the engine out doesn’t actually look that tricky.

If anything, modern cars seem to be more modular that older ones, if you’ve got the time and ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

I was not aware. The coolant leak I think is genuinely new, I looked all over the engine last weekend while breaking the vent hoses and didn't notice anything. The oil however, assuming it's the valve seals, the previous owner must have known about, as it produces a big cloud of smoke on occasion ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

That said, it's in otherwise nice condition - paint & interior - and hasn't been messed with or neglected as such, it's just maintenance catching up with it. There's enough others for sale that look obviously sad and tired and this one isn't. Mechanical stuff I can do myself relatively cheaply ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

Do they feel better now?
And when are you getting the M5 back?
This was simply the universe providing a silver car for you.

I'm so glad you asked !

Yes, the Merc brakes are VASTLY better. Not surprisingly. They are now normal again. Not only were the discs in a shocking state, all of the pads ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

I did the bushes on the X5 I had many years ago, there's an exhaust hanger that's right in the way, to avoid removing the whole exhaust the bodge is to get a blow torch on the hanger, bend it out of the way, do the bushes, then heat it & bend it back. It worked OK.

Re: Your fleet running reports

Like Harry says - lack of use, plus my parents live on the coast (<100m from the beach, I just checked!), and the small amount of use it does get is very gentle. My Dad is still pretty healthy, but he's certainly slower than he used to be, and definitely not haring around like a teenager !

Yes, the ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

Think I averaged 19mpg in my pre LCI F10 M5 never really saw any better than 28/29...

That's handy to know, ta. Averages are a bit meaningless as they - obviously - depend very much on a person's "average" day. But "best" is going to be 60-70mph motorway and that's more repeatable between ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

This passed an MOT in January :o with just a (strong) advisory. My parents live in a village and the local garage is "generous" and "understanding" on MOTs for trusted customers, and with some of the older cars that's OK because, well, they're old cars. But this is not an old car and those brakes ...
