Re: Your fleet running reports

Not entirely fleet news, but due to a car accident I seem to have cracked a rib.

I was trying to get to the rear wiper motor in the Porsche. Thanks to fixed buckets seats & a roll cage this turns out to be impossible for someone of my size.

Ouch.

And then they ignore your advice and ask the question again. Yep, I've been there enough times

Some people are just oblivious. Can't be trusted to do anything properly.

Missed an item from the list - I've just used a Hi-Lift jack as a makeshift body dozer to straighten the panel behind the number plate !

Argh. Confliction. 22nd is the date of the Basingstoke Pasture Blaster, which was due to be the first outing for my Compact.

Re: Your fleet running reports

I've been fiddling around with the trailer tidying it up. It still amazes me that people who are into cars seemingly have no mechanical knowledge and either bodge, or ignore, any problems. So far I have... Cut off one seized brake cable Removed broken front marker light Removed badly frayed breakawa...

Really nice Mk1 Granada, in convoy with a very tidy (but less cool) Mk2.

Re: Your fleet running reports

Collected the trailer. Needs a bloomin good clean and service but is fundametally sound. Although it seems to be somewhat bigger than I really need, it's a 4.8m bed and a 4.2m Compact: IMG_7255.jpg Even the Porsche is only a sniff over 4.4m. I guess it means I've got space for tyres, tool chest, oth...

Re: FAO Rich, Ste

I'll settle on 149mm. It seems weirdly un-Germanic that they didn't go 1 more to make it a round number, but it's definitely less than 150mm.

14mm diameter.

I'm think it's more likely to interchange with 7-Series or X5.

Re: FAO Rich, Ste

Yeah, I should have posted that to begin with shouldn’t I ??

Seems to be a fraction under 150mm. But I’m not sure it’s quite 149mm. It’s hard to measure precisely. I’ll go and have another look...

FAO Rich, Ste

And anyone else with a modern BMW. Could you do me a little favour and measure the distance between the uprights of the front headrests ? Centre to centre. My F10 has the stupid “active” headrests that push my head uncomfortably far forwards even when full retracted. They’d probably break my neck if...

The Dutch have yellow plates on the front. That always makes my brain confused about why the car is travelling backwards so quickly.

Re: Your fleet running reports

Cambelt and water pump at 5yr/50k? Seems a bit early, or is that just how VW roll? 5yrs seems to be their recommended interval for the cambelt. Water pump is probably a "while you're there" job. I just remembered that in one episode of Car SOS, Fuzz had a brilliant shortcut when changing ...

Re: Your fleet running reports

I'd imagine that's not just an oil change Gav. HTH. 339 major service 230 dsg oil & filter 499 cambelt & water pump 69 brake fluid 99 a/c service 1236 total The cambelt is obviously a big chunk and I wouldn't do that myself. The rest is about £200 of materials ? Plus let's say 4hrs @ £100/hr.

Re: Your fleet running reports

Wife's Passat started showing the "oil change" and "inspection" messages recently so she took it into the local VW main agent to see what's needed. 5 years / 50k miles. We've only had it since last year though. Came out with a quote for £1200  This is the first time she's ...
