Re: The history of search engines

Infoseek was the one that we gravitated to at the Manchester University biology department computer labs in 95-95 - largely because you could chuck your search term straight into the URL after the ?, so it was really quick to do a search directly compared to the other ones available at the time ...

Re: Easy way to ship a set of wheels & tyres?

I know some people use Paisley Freight, but there is also a guy in the A2 owners club who is great value for money for these sorts of smaller vanload deliveries - nuttinnew may have some thoughts on this? What sort of volume / things are you trying to transport? Depending on where you are could be ...

 I'm not sure what it does for foot room but iirc a complaint of the A5 was the awkward offset to the right the pedals had (alleviated by getting an auto)

Compared to the B5 / C5 platform cars, the A5 (and related A4 of that generation - ?B8?) were ...

Re: Frozen Pizza Dough Balls

Just a tip- don’t hit axes with a hammer, you can loosen off the handle and cause all sorts of problems, like swinging it later and the head detaching- use a wooden mallet or a baton instead, never something metal

Point taken - I can see why what I wrote above would raise concerns and ...

As in a sourdough starter?

Yes. (Sorry if this seems a bit abrupt). I am a micro / molecular biologist in my day job and if there is a mysticism-free "what to do" suggestion from experience of how to generate a viable starter as an alternative to my 11-14g of commercial yeast powder I'm all ...

Re: Frozen Pizza Dough Balls

I invested in a 12" Ooni the other week as well as some hardwood logs at a decent price and an axe off Amazon to be able to break the logs down into inch-square chunks.

Ended up spending around an hour using the axe as a wedge and a 3 pound lump hammer breaking the first 8 logs down into several ...

Thanks Robin. We got some Piriton syrup and that seems to work well. Less itchy and she's just gone straight to sleep.

really glad!! I've become a Piriton evangelist since it is so effective with so many childhood issues here and there. Our local chemist shuts at 5.30 so I was a bit concerned ...

Re: 8yr old with Chicken pox

Get Piriton syrup. ASAP. (chlorphenamine rather than Piriteze which is Cetirizine). Piriton is chemist-only, sadly. Piriteze is off the shelf in Tesco, but I don't have a clue if it is as effective.

My daughter caught chicken pox in her final year of nursery off her best friend (a medic's daughter ...

I actually saw the smaller one of these being tested on the Caspian Sea in the summer of 1991 - the A-90 powered by the tail-mounted propellors similar to those used on the Tupolev 95. Most mornings around 6am as the sun was rising there was a loud booming noise (a bit like a Spitfire, one of those ...

Re: Michelin's manufacturing plant in Dundee

It sounds like just another factory closure - but it is huge up here. Part of the issue is that this is another of the big international companies that came here and re-deployed a huge chunk of the workforce after the postwar decline of the jute mills from their heyday around the late 19th century ...

Da Nang area when I was there 9 years ago was being portioned up between various western resort companies barricading off miles of coastline to build exclusive golf / beach / spa complexes - I would imagine those are mostly in situ now if that is what you fancy. I based my trip on Hanoi with various ...

What did the Belgians ever do for us? Apart from several hundred varieties of beer, frites and saxophones. And Spa Francorchamps and that Jabbeke motorway section where they tested fast Jags in the 1950s or 60s. And Waterzooi or Carbonnades à la Gueuze..

ps. Happy for the Red Devils & fans. I grew ...
