Re: The House Projects Thread
That looks fab, really transforms the external aesthetic of the property. What's the deal with the L-shaped garden, looks like your property acquired some of the neighbour's garden at some point?
Ah yes - not sure whether I posted on here in the end but the bit of garden next to ours had been ...

Re: The House Projects Thread
@Mito Man Totally that, I'm sure the cost of this work has gone up by at least 20% in the last ~5 years from what people in the neighbourhood have told me. Doing the work sooner, even though I don't need it, could have financial benefits.
It's an opportunity to live/work somewhere else for a ...

Re: The House Projects Thread
Funny to see this discussion on renovation cost/benefit as coincidentally we have been debating the same thing.
For us its in the context of selling ours - our house is a very nice version of its type (London late Victorian terrace) but it has a separate kitchen and dining room and we've had a ...

Re: The House Projects Thread
The budget is simply based upon the estimates I get. I'm looking for a firm which has a good history of recommendations/references/reviews, has been trading a long time, can give plenty of examples of previous work and who manages to identify any of the potential issues my property will face with ...

Re: The House Projects Thread
All useful feedback, thanks guys
DeskJockey I was wondering this, however, the layout of the flat also means that turning one of the current bedrooms into another reception room would be a logical choice to should solve that. To be fair though, the layout isn't as naturally suited to that as a ...

It's a TV in the garden now, I'd forget it's there and use it less than the one in the hallwayBeany wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 7:16 pm How else are people going to know how much money you have? Apparently a plasma TV on the wall in the lobby just doesn't cut it any more![]()

Re: The House Projects Thread
I'm seriously considering plonking a double dormer loft conversion on top of my flat. It'd turn my 3 bed, 1 bathroom flat into a 5 bed, 2 bathroom flat. It would add somewhere in the region of 31sq/m of space. Although in reality, one of those 'bedrooms' would become a reception room and a small ...

Re: How important is the "Right" spec?
In the past I only cared about the right engine and model variant, e.g. being a BMW Sport, or a Type-R.
Maybe it's my age, buy nowadays I'm very fussy about about spec, with colour being important but less so. I spent weeks scouring the adverts for my Ateca and increased my budget by a few £k in ...

I don’t know if it’s just me getting towards being a grumpy old fucker, but it’s pissing me off calling it Black Friday when you’re just putting something on sale for the whole of fucking November, what happened to it just been one day??
I mean we already have Black History Month in October ...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Took the Ateca in for a service, as I’ve had it for a year now. Same workshop as the previous owner which is a nice bit of continuity. They suggested changing brake fluid too, I said yes. They serviced it while I sat and did some work, then I paid and drove home.

On the subject of pulling out of sales, I've always loved how my dad gave a bras d'honneur to a buyer who tried to gazunder him when selling my grandparents' old flat. The guy buying was a cash investor, but had been cocky, giving us the runaround with delays and drove a really hard bargain too ...

Re: The Property Thread
True. Not many can afford it, but a LOT of people want that kind of place. I once owned the lower two floors of a very similar house by Dartmouth Park. And if you can drop £6.5m on a house like that I’m sure you’d be doing a full refurb regardless of current condition.

I’ve always lusted after this little row of houses by the ponds on Hampstead Heath and one of them is finally for sale. Will deffo put in an offer, if they can remove the 6 at the start of the price 😂
