Re: Apple Vision Pro

As awesome as the VisonPro is, it has the 3DTV problem whereby the experience was cool but people just CBA with the glasses. Most people don't want to wear a computer on their head.

Re: The House Projects Thread

Floors are being sanded today and we're trapped upstairs by sheets of plastic - it looks like house in ET when the government swoops down. Of course poor planning and preparation is to blame. Child #2 is wondering if she could get food delivered and they'd be happy to try throwing it up through an ...

Re: Smartwatches

Started using an Apple watch occasionally and the battery life is shocking. I'm used to a Garmin that lasts for weeks at a time between charges  Yeah, it really is rubbish! 😂 I still use one though as I use fitness+ and “it just works” etc. I find it best to charge whilst getting ready in the ...

5+ years ago I would have said weird, however, things seem to be different now. Even my bike mechanic said the same thing the first time I used him.

It's been a week of two ultrasonic thingamys being plugged in either side of the wall in question and no sign or mousey since. Looks like they may have done the job.

That too. The cheap flight to Italy (£200 return including luggage) departs at something like 5.30am, which means I'd need to leave for the airport around 2.30am. Proper middle-of-the-night travel times.

Calculated that driving to my dad's instead of flying saves about £3-500 and a tonne of CO2 compared to flying.
How far is that, and is that based on several people? I did some rough calcs and it seemed that flying would be more CO2 efficient for travelling alone for Italy.

Re: Why are road trips so alluring?

The only redemption would if I made a YouTube video called "I bought the cheapest Smart car on eBay and drove to Italy for a pizza    " and hope it goes viral so that the monetisation pays for the suffering inflicted by driving. “My brother bought the cheapest Ferrari...

Re: Why are road trips so alluring?

They don't make sense but that is the fun. And if you do it in a Smart that's more of a challenge so the feeling of accomplishment will be greater. That might be why these trips can be so memorable, even when they're awful. Memories are made through experiences, especially ones that are unusual. We...

Re: Why are road trips so alluring?

Borrow one of your brother's cars. Don't do it in the Smart. You'll either end up dead or wishing you were dead. A trip to Italy can only be done in one of SJ’s cars surely? He offered the dancing donkey already  I drove 2500 miles through France and Northern Italy over 3 week with a 9 month o...

Why are road trips so alluring?

I'm planning a trip to Italy, so have researched the costs of flying and getting a hire car to visit everywhere on my itinerary. Despite that, I'm absolutely obsessed with the idea of driving there, even though it makes absolutely ZERO sense (temporally, financially, energetically or for reliability...

Re: Desktop multimedia speakers

Thanks for all the recommendations I think there's a few potentially great solutions amongst those! Going to do a little bit of measuring to work out what fits. I would prefer to wall mount, however I use a stand/sit desk so positioning would be a little unreliable doing that, better to simply have ...

Re: Desktop multimedia speakers

Would the KRK Rokit suit? They are possibly a little too big but they are loved by DJ's as a decent entry level monitor, there is also a matching sub if you want to extend them a little. I use some old Mordaunt-Short MS10 book shelfs, run off a Teac AV-H500 amp (I needed more inputs and wanted a de...

Desktop multimedia speakers

I'm looking for ideas for great sounding speakers to put on my desk which are at the hifi end of this category. They only need to be stereo, surround is totally unnecessary as I have never watched a film at my desk. Space is quite limited and it's a tiny room which is the same width as my desk, so n...
