Re: The Weather Thread.

The weather this summer has sucked from start to finish. I'd struggle to think of more than 1 or 2 days in a row where the weather was properly nice. We even had to cancel a race last weekend, first time in 9 years, because of the thunder & lightning. I'm still hoping for a very late summer arrivin...

Two cars I never knew existed before today....

The best Bond car, but with room for your dogs. https://uncrate.com/p/2019/08/astone-martin-db5-shooting-brake-1.jpg Italian inspiration for the Esprit which was launched a year later. https://uncrate.com/p/2019/08/lamborghini-urraco-1.jpg More info on both from the main page here along with a coupl...

Re: Decent Recent TV

The podcasts are brilliant - as well as giving great background to the events themselves (as well as explaining that some of those things you thought were invented, were actually facts, often downplayed), they give a lot of info about why they made the decisions they did about plots, sub-plots, char...

Good musicals are good.

A Star is Born isn’t a musical, it is shit though. It’s a daytime TV movie with a big budget cast.
You take that back!!

Its a surprisingly great movie with some of the most convincing actors-being-rockstars I've ever seen in.

Re: Bye Bye Boris!

Interested to see the Scots view - I guess you like Nic Sturgeon and want independent Scotland - which is great - I'm part Scottish, my Gparents were from Shetland. I voted No in the indyRef, and was pretty vocal about the economic case for maintaining the union. If another referendum came around, ...

Re: The Movie Thread

I'll generally find the good in any movie, but for me there's a difference between popcorn fodder/guilty pleasures/brains-out entertainment trash and movies which are just badly made or utterly without redemption. To be fair, those are few and far between, but there's a group of movies in the middle...

Re: The Movie Thread

Crazy right? I understand objective v subjective, but honestly am amazed at how many truly awful films seem to bring money in these days, especially when there's so much bad word of mouth about the true stinkers. Fair play to him though, his career has lasted ages and I guess his Netflix deal suits ...

Re: The Movie Thread

Punch Drunk Love is the obvious exception to the "everything Sandler has done is utter dog shit rule". But how long ago was that? I have heard a few people say that the new thing with Jennifer Anniston is "ok" and "not terrible". But I'm amazed at how he keeps getting cast and projects greenlit. I w...

I haven’t seen that one but Adam Sandler is probably my favourite comedy actor.

Re: The Movie Thread

New The Lion King is practically irredeemable. John Oliver is no Rowan Atkinson, Chiwetel Ejiofor is no Jeremy Irons and repeat for every single cast member. Even James Earl Jones 2019 is no James Earl Jones 1994. I found the trailer a bit strange but not entirely sure why. The tech looks amazing s...

Re: Bicyclist thread

How does the extra weight of the e-bike feel when you're doing technical/gnarly trails? I've never sat on one, let alone ridden one, but the assumption is that weight will make it more difficult on anything other than fast flowing stuff?

Re: The Movie Thread

Went to see MIB, it was not on early enough so saw the new Aladdin. I nearly walked out after 5 or 10 minutes it was so pish, Will Smith lifted a bit but for me Genie stole the show as voiced by Robin Williams and although WS was good (and did not try and be an identical genie) it was not a success...

Re: The angle grinder strikes back!

Remind me of the original story on this one? The memory is hazy. Accident with angle grinder resulted in 2 severed tendons. Healed up and had constant pain ever since. Turns outs a nerve had become fused in scar tissue which has now been freed and something else which I can't remember as I had lots...

Re: The Movie Thread

How cool does that Top Gun trailer look? So long as its not a massive turkey that film is going to be massive with pretty much every demographic of a certain age. Top Gun was the first movie I bought on VHS. My first guess was that Cruise is sitting in the back-seat of a trainer plane so they can ea...

Re: Green Laning report

This looks like an absolute blast and I genuinely never knew it was even a thing. Top way to spend the weekend! It's harder to organise up here as you need land owner permission to use the lanes, there are clubs that do it though. I did wonder about that, will have to do a google. I wasn't sure exa...

Re: Top Gear

Finally caught up with the last two episodes and I have to say, they were really good. I was afraid the schtick would be too much, but they've got the balance right - they appear to all enjoy each other's company and Chris Harris gets to do what he's best at too. I think its good they now mention th...
