Re: FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

I’ve done it with knx products, but it would normally need at least a partial re-wire, but the scope could be checked with a survey. ‘Corridor’ type presence detection above each bank of desks, two power feeds to each desk set, knx relays switching the power feeds and a desk mounted switch. One pow...

Re: HMRC Automated Phone System

After just over an hour, I spoke to an advisor who in five minutes fixed the issue and converted a £ underpayment to a £ 8-) refund.

Happy days.

Yup. Same here, 48 mins and counting...
Wouldn't it be funny if you both got through at the same time, but ended up connected to each other....
As long as that also gives us the back-end system access to fix the issues, that would be fine.

Re: FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

Its generally a bad idea powering off your computer devices overnight. Scheduled updates will run overnight. If you are using some automated power cut device this will very likely lead to issues with the machines as well as that would cause an unscheduled shutdown. Your marginal cost savings will b...

Re: FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

The draw is fairly low, I agree, but it is still about 15w/h per desk, and when we did the sums it looked like there was a reasonable saving to be made.

Idea is we do a small PoC to get a more accurate prediction.

Re: HMRC Automated Phone System

Yeah they've put me on emergency tax as they think I've got 2 jobs, so I had to call them up. Spent 15 mins going through all the preamble, questions and just when I was going into the queue I got "Sorry. We're having technical issues, call back later" THEN TELL ME THAT AT THE START! :evi...

In years past I've found that once you're through to an actual human the service has been fine. Just getting to that point though.

FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

Rich B /sparky skilled people. Looking for some help. We're considering how to manage our idle time leccy use in our offices, as there is a lot of kit on desks that aren't in use outside of office hours (docking stations, monitors). Do you know of a product that will allow us to control each bank o...

HMRC Automated Phone System

Need to change something, call them up, get a loooong preamble about how easy it is to use their online services, and whatnot. Unfortunately that won't fix my problem. Then get to the "tell me why you're calling". I tell it. It mulls my response over, tells me they're very busy and hangs u...

Is a leased car yours? Are you saying you're paying the leasing costs on three large commercial jets? If you do, I'll agree they can stay on the list. No, but I’d argue this is a what do you drive list, otherwise there’d be myriad lists of finance free, bought but owe the bank, added to mortgage, l...

Yes. There are a few bits and bobs that could be done, but it is a bare minimum effort to get it looking better for when we put it up for sale.

Re: The House Projects Thread

Work started today. Scaffold went up this morning, and early afternoon the builder showed up, starting to mark out what needs cutting out. https://gallery.ov9.co.uk/images/2024/04/24/20240424_172623.jpg He's started on the cutting. So far he's not found anything horrendous, fingers crossed that cont...
