Re: Car Hire Lottery

That's similar to how mainframes used to be priced. All kit in the box from the start, and then you bought a licence to get more CPU or RAM enabled. Makes it easier for them.

Re: The House Projects Thread

Looks like our render repair project is expanding a bit. The porch, which was badly built from the start, is now beginning to look it wants to come away from the house.

Builder will look at it tomorrow. Glad I got that tax refund!

Isn't that the problem with the wet belt system in the first place?

Re: HMRC Automated Phone System

Just to round it off. Woke up to a notification from the HMRC app notifying me of a message. Message told me to claim my refund, which took all of 30 seconds. Money should be in the bank no later than Friday.

Can't fault the service apart from the initial issue.

Jay-me wrote: Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:32 pm How do you make a pic file smaller?
Depends on what device you're using. If you're on your phone it'll usually be in the gallery app. If on a laptop you can use Paint or similar to reduce the resolution.

Create an account on the OV9 Gallery and use that. Pics can be up to 2mb.

Re: HMRC Automated Phone System

For that sum, no, not worth the hassle. But, they'd adjusted my tax free allowance to recoup a supposed shortfall, which worked out at about £750/month. That certainly was noticeable.

Re: FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

I’ve done it with knx products, but it would normally need at least a partial re-wire, but the scope could be checked with a survey. ‘Corridor’ type presence detection above each bank of desks, two power feeds to each desk set, knx relays switching the power feeds and a desk mounted switch. One pow...

After just over an hour, I spoke to an advisor who in five minutes fixed the issue and converted a £ underpayment to a £ 8-) refund.

Happy days.

Yup. Same here, 48 mins and counting...
Wouldn't it be funny if you both got through at the same time, but ended up connected to each other....
As long as that also gives us the back-end system access to fix the issues, that would be fine.

Re: FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

Its generally a bad idea powering off your computer devices overnight. Scheduled updates will run overnight. If you are using some automated power cut device this will very likely lead to issues with the machines as well as that would cause an unscheduled shutdown. Your marginal cost savings will b...

Re: FTAO: Sparky people/RichB

The draw is fairly low, I agree, but it is still about 15w/h per desk, and when we did the sums it looked like there was a reasonable saving to be made.

Idea is we do a small PoC to get a more accurate prediction.

Yeah they've put me on emergency tax as they think I've got 2 jobs, so I had to call them up. Spent 15 mins going through all the preamble, questions and just when I was going into the queue I got "Sorry. We're having technical issues, call back later" THEN TELL ME THAT AT THE START! :evi...

In years past I've found that once you're through to an actual human the service has been fine. Just getting to that point though.
