Re: First Cars - Insurance
First gen c class Mercs used to be cheap to insure for young drivers, but I don’t know how it is these days. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202402266967781 £6200 on the Merc! It seems the loop holes are being closed off and nothing is immune to scalping now. Try a newer model like the w204...

Re: First Cars - Insurance
Side note, NFU wouldn’t insure me on an E63 due to no relevant experience. It’s an odd world insurance.

Re: First Cars - Insurance
I’m more surprised that it’s a sensible quote with the NFU who I can only describe as the biggest thieves in the insurance industry  That's not my experience or the experience of many of my rural clients! Took two weeks for the underwriters to review and agree it, i believe a lot has to do wit...

Re: First Cars - Insurance
My 17 year old has a w204 C180 manual coupe. £800 a year to insure with NFU, I’m on the policy as well. Car was £5600 when I bought it but quite a few saloons/estates or ropey coupes available for £3k. Surprisingly cheap for what is a pretty nice car. is that as a learner or passed? Currently learn...

Re: Boring 190E cosworth poll
Cosworth did the engine work on the 2.3 but I seem to recall that the 2.5 was more an in house development than a job farmed out. AMG introduced a power pack for the 2.5-16 engine in evo 1 and 2 forms. It’s unlikely that both Cosworth & AMG were working on the 2.5. The 2.3’d revved much harder t...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Maybe it’s just East Anglia but I really don’t understand car companies at the minute. 3 alloy wheel places cannot deal with any corrosion, says that it will never be flat and I say well fill any corrosion as I had done years ago on some MI16 rims. Can’t be done apparently and they must be powder c...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Give Dave a bell as he had a website which ended up having loads of fastenings and clips etc which saved a fortune. It’s always worth checking with the dealer though as the pricing structure is so haphazard you get some real bargains. Dave! Think they fell out? Says who? I’ve spoken to Dave quite r...

Re: Your fleet running reports
https://i.imgur.com/bEfoYbT.jpg The rear of my car is stripped and everything’s getting attacked with the wire wheel, there was a couple of areas that I wasn’t expecting rot so that’s set me back a bit but hopefully can get repair panels for them, or look for a donor. Panel gaps on the front end ar...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Looks fantastic. What suspension components did you use? Genuine MB or lemforder / meyle etc. All the suspension arms were genuine, I think it was only the front subframe bushes that were pattern parts as the stiffer genuine ones weren’t available. They are stiffer ones from a 201 chassis car I bel...

What Harry said, only way to sort lacquer peel is to repaint the panel. It escalates quickly once you start picking the loose lacquer.

I may have turned my car into a fair weather toy 😂 Diff being rebuilt solely as it was looking crappy next to the rest of the underside. https://www.dropbox.com/s/qgb8pmwjj2es2gc/Photo%2026-08-2021%2C%2017%2004%2005.jpg?raw=1 Everything plated, powder coated, treated and painted where necessary. ht...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Sileck motorsport wiring on the south coast, they redid the engine harness, starter motor harness (which was really bad) and rewired the throttle body, £640 inc vat which isn’t that bad. Excellent cheers. My lower harness was £500 alone and it’s the same again for the upper, that doesn’t include th...
