Re: Your fleet running reports
Did the rear pads on the Volvo, which despite the fiddly electronic parking brake was pretty straight forward. Got to the front pads and when I eventually got the caliper off I discovered that ECP had sent me the wrong pads as the new ones were about 5mm deeper than the originals, so I'll have to ge...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Boxster passed its MOT with a couple advisories for the tyres (they're cracking slightly as they're old). Will get a full set next week - surprisingly Kwik Fit were cheapest for Continental Sport Contacts (£750 all in). Got Strasse to do an oil change, although it doesn't need a service until next y...

Re: No F1 thread?
Alonso signed another 2 years at AM. Sainz heavily rumoured to be off to Mercedes. Much as I like some of the established drivers, there could do with being a decent cull of guys who have had their shot. Magnusson Hulk Danny Ric (Gutting but he just doesn't look fast) Zhou Bottas Tsunoda possibly, ...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Dropped the XC40 in for a service the other day. They did the service but reported I needed new tyres (already booked in at Costco) but also new disks and pads all round at a cost of £1200! Needless to say I told them to do one. Checked the pads and they are low (rears much more than the fro...

Re: BYD are taking over EVs
A couple of things to remember :- I'm (just) old enough to remember when people used to refer to Japanese cars as "Jap Crap". Look what happened next. Remember when Kia weren't a thing and Hyundai made weird Cortina-based cars? Look at them now. Another 5 to 10 years and a Chinese manufact...

Expect used prices for the ICE cars to take a marked upswing in the light of this.

Re: Full Fibre
Was on Vodafone (City Fibre) at the last house - 120Mb up and down (fibre is synchronous bandwidth) and it was superb. Currently on Virgin here as couldn't get Fibre, but as it became available a month after we moved in, Virgin are getting canned as soon as the contract is up (next month) and I'm sw...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Decided to address the Boxster display issue this lunchtime. My first step was to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Went out to the car, unlocked it, opened the driver's door and all the displays were working again! Hurrah for self-fixing cars! Volvo told me it wanted a service this morning so I...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Took the Boxster to judo on Tuesday night as the Mrs had the Volvo. On the way there I noticed that both the outside lower displays on the dash (showing trip and odometer, and clock/outside temperature) were both blank. The main centre display is fine. Did a quick google and a couple of people have ...

Re: Your fleet running reports
Being on holiday and contracting the lurgy when I got back has meant zero progress on the 928. On the way home from the airport the XC40 decided that, despite climate settings to the contrary, we wanted all the heat. Tried resetting by turning the car off and back on again, but no dice. Left the car...

https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/13061245/lewis-hamilton-to-join-ferrari-for-2025-formula-1-season This is huge news. LeClerc (who I think is massively overrated) has just signed a multi-year deal with Ferrari. They just need a decent strategy team to not fuck things up. Wonder where Sainz w...

Re: Your fleet running reports
As part of the interior light fix, I realised that the door guard lights (red lights in the door jamb that come on when the door is open) weren't working. They're connected in series to the door interior lights so I thought I'd pop them out and have a look. They both disintegrated and I was left wit...

Re: Manual or Auto
Volvo is an auto which is perfect for what it is, similarly the Boxster is a manual which is perfect for what it is. 928 is an auto which I think suits the car perfectly. There's a premium on 928 manuals, but I really don't understand why - the clutch is heavy, it's a dog leg box and the shifts aren...

Re: 2023 review / 2024 plans
2023 wasn't too bad all things considered. Mrs Delphi's managed to snag herself a new job towards the end of the year and the extra money kind of offsets the cost of living increases with mortgage rates going up etc. STILL haven't finished the 928, although finally getting the respray done was a maj...
